It has been explained to me that due to the size and weight of the stock it would not be possible to keep to the time table that the 150/158 stock are capable of ?.

There seems to be a general sensors of opinion by local staff that FGW^▸ (First Great Western) are going to run an IC125 set without the buffet car this season in stead of the usual loco hauled stock with a revised time table due to the acceleration problem that the line posses. Has anyone heard any different.

Yee Gods.First you complain that there is no Extra trains  in the summer period when there is you complain about the thing is highly polluting and the customers are all cranks.Cranks they may be 67's  may be more polluting than DMU^▸ (Diesel Multiple Unit)'s which are obviously not available. But at least they encourage more bums on seats  more revenue and hopefully it may encourage. FGW^▸ (First Great Western) to improve the service.

Yes I always enjoyed Watching the loco hauled specials  working their trains up the bank from Weymouth to Bincombe Tunnel from my back garden when I used to live at Upwey just outside Weymouth there is a lot more atmosphere from a loco hauled Train.

Hows this for a bit of nostalgia I can remember when you could send your luggage in advance of your holiday to have it delivered to you holiday destination. and when the holiday were over have it sent back home all done by good old BR^▸ (British Rail(ways)), That was usably from Birmingham to Weymouth By Br Western Region and they had trains that went direct in the Holiday season. That was from the Midlands Now I'm showing my age.

I know it a daft question and i will most likely be shot down but perhaps there may be an 180 still knocking around  Fgw somewhere. or perhaps there is some reason they cannot use on this line

I do not know if FGW^▸ (First Great Western) are in the business of making money or if they consider that its just not worth the hassle of arranging Bristol Weymouth specials or (anywhere else for that mater) at a sensible arrival and departure times for the summer period it just does not make sense to me. It would encourage people to use the trains for a day out if they were advertised properly and comprised of suitable stock and heaven forbid actually given a reduced fare. Weymouth in the summer period is a night mare by car. So the removal of that agro would be an advantage. and an added bonus. 

Its only going to get worse in the main holiday period school holidays ect at least on the southern line they get proper trains even if they are 444

It is just a thought that if the trains were made more affordable then more people would want to use them and the infrastructure would not be able to cope anyway, Perhaps it may pays the powers that be to set the prices at the present levels. There is not enough spare capacity now. If you are a family of four and you wish to go on a moderate journey I would of thought it is still cheaper to go by car even taking into account the price increase of fuel into account.

For those of you that like a challenge have a go at getting from My Station Kidwelly to Weymouth on Sunday 30th March  My daughter is going back home after spending Easter with us. Has to be Sunday to get the children ready for school  so I though that I would check train times She usually leaves around dinner time and the journey takes approx 6 hours with 3 Changes When the Weymouth Train started from Cardiff it was only 2 changes. (Happy days) The first journey is 4 changes include a bus ride 9.06hrs. 2nd 7 changes with two bus rides 7.41hrs. 3rd 6 changes 1 bus 8.20hrs 4th 5 changes incl 2 bus 7.20 5th 6 changes incl 2 bus rides 6.40 I think I got the times right but you get the idea  When she has her two children and the luggage she really dose not want the agro it looks like Dads taxi.  Did some body once say let the train take the strain. I know they need to do maintenance But?

The powers that be decided to close the base at Portland Dorset some time ago as being uneconomical Then sold it to private company only to pay the same company for the reuse of the same facility and infrastructure
There seems to be more surface ships as befor  and there is even rumors of some Submarines reusing the port. The moral to this story is that  the MOD/Government have not got a clue and any thing is possible.

Well done Jim I think your contributions and the other members who post topics not related to FGW^▸ (First Great Western) directly are of great interest to the members of the forum that share a  general interest in the rail way world , I for one who have always been connected to the railways in one way or another have found the forum a very good source of information and have discovered many things that  have always intrigued  me for
years and that the suggestion by Grahame that an addition travel section is a very good one because of the vast source of information shown in the forum generally could not fail to make it a success.

I agree with Shazz And Rjames 87 I use ATW^▸ (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC^▸ (Train Operating Company))) more than FGW^▸ (First Great Western) We only have two FGW trains (I live in Kidwelly West Walesa) a one each way weekdays  So I have to use ATW before I can get any were near Cardiff  and its not very often ATW are late  they usually turn  and you can get a seat.  So because I have to go to Weymouth quit a lot its usaly then when the fun starts Cardiff Portsmouth or Parkway Weymouth I hope that ATW hang on to all their  stock if it ain't broken then don't fix it. I  used to like the journey from Southampton to Weymouth then some clown took the 442's  off some improvement.
