I’m trying to organise a trip for an elderly family member from Tiverton Parkway to Redruth, the date would be Friday 11th September. Would anyone know which services are operated by the “Castle” sets? A direct service with an early to mid afternoon arrival would be ideal.

Unfortunately trains are operating to a special Timetable at the moment due to COVID and as the situation is being constantly reviewed it is not possible to say a month ahead at this stage.   At the moment  there is only one through service per day at 0526 ex Bristol to Penzance with just about anything else requiring a change at Plymouth from where almost everything from there is a Castle. .

Ok, thanks for the info.

There is a possibility a normal service could be resumed by then in which case there would be a couple of choices.

Ok, thanks for the info.

Welcome to the forum, Andy E.

11th September is the very last weekday before the next timetable change ... there may be a couple of others a week or two earlier relating to school traffic, and train diagrams are only planned at quite short notice.  Very fluid situation. Others may have more insight than I have.

On line service at Real Time Trains showing I suspect incorrect data for 11.9 ... for tomorrow (11.Cool and I would take an educated guess until 15th September, direct trains from Tiverton Parkway to Redruth ...
06:35 and 07:52 - operated by "West" fleet so very likely HST (High Speed Train) (Castle)
11:57, 15:58 and 19:03 - from Paddington, operated by IET (Intercity Express Train)
17:29 - Cross Country service,  almost inevitably a voyager, but technically an HST (not a Castle though) could turn up, I suppose

Thanks Graham.  I traveled on Castle and IET (Intercity Express Train) sets in Cornwall early this year and much preferred the shortened HST (High Speed Train). I have traveled on IET’s several times from Chippenham and found them ok when powered from the overhead lines, but not so nice sat in a powered car when running on diesel.
