Good connections on Saturdays for anyone who live in the Marlborough / Pewsey area into the Weymouth Wizard

Alas - I hope not too many people have taken this option up today ...

Quote
08:35 London Paddington to Paignton due 12:04
This train will be delayed between Reading and Taunton and is expected to be 4 minutes late.
This train will be diverted between Reading and Taunton.
This train will call additionally at Bristol Temple Meads.
This train will no longer call at Newbury, Pewsey, Westbury and Castle Cary.
This is due to a person being hit by a train.

Sounds like quite a morning around Bedwyn.  A broken down train, with the driver of the locomotive doing to the rescue finding / spotting a body.

Journeycheck now tells us:

Quote
Cancellations to services between Pewsey and Bedwyn Following a person being hit by a train between Pewsey and Bedwyn all lines have now reopened.
Impact:
Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day. Last Updated :15/08/2015 08:22

Something odd there - re-opened at 08:22 and yet disruption until end of day??  I suppose that's true for people who were planning a day out in Weymouth ...

Does anyone know what train broke down and where?

Where was the body discovered?

Edit to answer - Probably a freight that had to be rescued, all in the Bedwyn area - GrahamE

Lack of diversionary routes and increased traffic on other routes escalated the disruption.

Thoughts to those involved. Sad

From my Facebook Mail - "is the Wizard running this Saturday with connection from Pewsey?"  Alas not. The HST (High Speed Train) to Weymouth is off ...

Quote
Since our first correspondence, the RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers) have decided on Saturday as a strike day ... so the Swindon to Weymouth train will not be running.   Pewsey's service is reduced to trains to London at 12:00 and 20:23, and heading West to Plymouth at 16:03, 18:03 and 21:07

I appreciate it's only one day three days, but the selected stopping pattern at Pewsey, just like at Melksham, doesn't seem designed around the flows to / from those stations.   In Melksham, we have an event that brings thousands to the town on Saturday and Sunday this weekend - with a metric of attendee who would be very keen to use public transport, but it's a marketing campaign we've skipped and instead we're involved in damage limitation with those who attended the event last year using our brave new service, and find it's gone for the second time they want to come long distance for the event by train.
