On researching a serious topic, I was remind of the Cycle Facility of the Month from Warrington - http://wcc.crankfoot.xyz/facility-of-the-month/ ... and I have just found the pictures at https://mpora.com/action/road-cycling/worst-cycle-lanes-ever-grace-the-earth-1/ with a search).

I have posted in "Lighter Side" ... but you have to cry rather than laugh at some of these.

Regrettably some local  authorities appear to think they are providing a service with this sort of thing, to whom I am not sure; motorist, cyclist, pedestrian? It makes you wonder about the people who actually do the work, who can presumably see that it is nonsensical; are they so demoralised with cutbacks (LA) or driven by profit (private contractors).
At risk of trying to teach grandmothers to suck eggs, as Graham normally has most bases covered, try looking at http://therantyhighwayman.blogspot.com/. Civil/highways engineer with an interest in cycling. Has a different take on the subject.

That's one to come back to and read in depth later.   On a train at the moment.

I used to be  cyclist; no longer.   After "issues" two summers ago, I had to learn to even walk again in a straight line and not fall down stairs.  So I leave it to others and take care to listen and apply logic when the topics comes us.  More of a tragedy - ski-ing went too, but perhaps I'll give that a go again some time - soft powder being more forgiving that tarmac!

The rest of Ruckholt Road between here and Leyton was upgraded five years ago, but this junction didn't meet expectations so Waltham Forest council agreed to improve it. They haven't quite.

Previously an unsegregated cycle lane skirted the bus stop along the dual carriageway, then faded away at the traffic lights. Now a proper segregated lane hops up onto the pavement around an enlarged bus stop and continues safely over the railway bridge. It ought to be a big improvement, apart from the fact the cycle lane is closed because it careers through a bus shelter.
