Hello
I'm looking at buying a "DFY  WY FAMILY DAYSAVER TRAIN & BUS" [taken from BR (British Rail(ways)) fares] or called by the PTE (Passenger Transport Executive) a family dayrover as it is the cheapest way to make [part] of a journey I am doing.

What would my chances be do you think of being able to purchase this from a GWR (Great Western Railway) ticket counter or can I only buy it within West Yorkshire? as ideally I'd be splitting tickets onto this so don't want to alight and buy a ticket.

I can't give a definitive answer, but Chippenham booking office once sold me an off peak day return from Paisley Gilmour Street to Irvine. So Id say if it is available at ticket offices in Yorkshire then it should be avaiabke where you are

I purchased a Spirit of Scotland rover from Newton Abbot Station, so you should be able to purchase just about any valid UK (United Kingdom) rail ticket from most ticket offices

According to the National Rail web site, the ticket is only available to purchase at selected stations within West Yorkshire. I have not used one for a number of years, but it used to be a scratch card which you validated with the required date.https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/prb3f085e093421db9efb81c011cf83f.aspx

Thanks to all the replies to the thread. Based on the replies I had a go....

The short answer is yes I was successful in buying from a GWR (Great Western Railway) station, but I did need the BR (British Rail(ways)) Fares 'code' to find it and say that I was confident with the ticket.

A longer answer:

To reply to some of the points above too - the ticket is available as a scratchcard (where you validate it by scratching off the date) from bus stations (and previously [perhaps still?] postoffices) within West Yorkshire as it allows travel on both bus and train. If you buy it from the train station then you would get it printed on a standard ticket stock and is 'dated' so you must choose your date at purchase.

If anyone is interested it's a useful ticket available in 'Family' (£14.20) and 'Adult' (£9.50) versions. They allow 1 day of unlimited bus and train travel in West Yorkshire after 9.30 weekdays and anytime at weekend. There is also an afternoon peak restriction on rail only which was brought in during the past few years of 4-6.30pm which does make the product less useful perhaps on a weekday..... There are 'peak' and thus more expensive versions of the adult one but not the family ticket.

The family ticket allows for  2 adults and 3 'concessions' or 1 adult and 4 concessions. A concession being a child or a holder of a WY issued National concessionary bus pass. It may also apply to those with passes not issued by West Yorkshire but not sure....

Anyway hope this is of use if anyone is visiting West Yorks.
