Wow!  Shocked

Thanks for finding that, grahame - it was absolutely brilliant!  Grin

What I found amazing, though, was the number of scenes where groups of railway workers were standing trackside, even in the adjoining four-foot, within inches of a passing full-length train.  Scary!  Roll Eyes

And back then just an orange, not very reflective, bib. Not head to toe in orange hi-vis with highly reflective striping and piping, like today.

Orange HiVi did not become mandated until the late 1970's.

Working or standing in an adjacent 4 foot did not seem scary at the time, every one had faith in the very experienced guys who were appointed as Lookouts, even in 1969 trains were still quite slow and noisy it was not until the IC125 that BR (British Rail(ways)) started to change its working practices.

The adoption of full orange and the removal of "unassisted Lookouts" is a good thing, trains 55 years on from the film are faster and quitter.

There was a lot of criticism from architectural & art institutions about the fakeness of the interior & exterior of the tavern cars but as James Callaghan pointed out, "Nobody likes these tavern cars except for the public”.

A bit like buffet cars !
I would pay good money to travel in a replica tavern car either on a railtour, or on a heritage railway.

A meeting of the group has popped up for 18th May, for Westbury. I am checking back on details (time and guest charge) and will add it here if the answers are appropriate

Meeting 14:00 at the Railway Inn, Westbury - at the top of station approach.  All welcome, no meeting fee for guests.  Pub food from 13:00 / attendees encouraged to come along and join in; pay for your own food.   BRTA's first meeting in Wiltshire (no longer a guess - confirmed by their administrator).  Invite mirrored for Coffee Shop members at http://www.passenger.chat/mirror/brta_west_202405.pdf

Most plans for a Bristol and Bath area 'metro' have been based on the heavy rail network (including disused parts).

Portishead, perhaps?  Roll Eyes

O/T trivia, all day opening was introduced on August 22, to mark my birthday. It proved so successful that they carried on with it !

There has to be a campaign, and / or petition, to have 22 August named forthwith as 'Broadgage Day'.   Grin

Maybe history but I haven't met any personnel from that organisation to my knowledge, so definitely not the latter

Chris - I suspect you have met at least one of their patrons with Railfuture.
