Bus passengers in North Somerset are in line for improved services following an annual review by the local authority (link below.)

Several improvements are being made to council-supported buses across the district.

These include a more frequent service linking Portishead with Bristol, including serving the new Ashlands housing developments in the town.

In Weston-super-Mare a later service will operate to Cribbs Causeway via Clevedon and Portishead on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Sunday and bank holiday service between Sand Bay and Weston will now be operated all year round on a commercial basis by First Bus.

A total of 16 bus operators submitted bids to run services - the highest number ever received by the council.

Elfan Ap Rees, executive member responsible for transport, said:

"This has meant we have been able to withstand pressure for price increases and gain service improvements."

According to Portishead Town Council, First are taking over the Euro Taxi service from Portishead to Bristol, via Avonmouth and the Portway, from April.

First currently run the other service via Pill and Ashton which is apparently not as well used.
