Come now, Noggin.  We don’t encourage optimism and positive comparisons here! Grin
62  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: 2024 Delays and Cancellations - North Cotswold Line on: February 27, 2024, 10:15:46
The recent trend towards warmer and wetter winters is also a significant reason.
63  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Infrastructure problems in Thames Valley causing disruption elsewhere - ongoing, since Oct 2014 on: February 27, 2024, 10:12:56
Now it's after 2200, the timetable of the day for tomorrow still assumes a 4 track railway (Didcot and Newbury semi-fasts are still in the timetable).

Either NR» (Network Rail - home page) are certain it's going to get fixed, or there's going to be a huge amount of delay repay again.

Looks like it was all fixed.
64  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: GWR IETs Issue on: February 26, 2024, 19:42:33
At least you refrained from suggesting steam engine haulage on this particular occasion I suppose.
65  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: GWR IETs Issue on: February 26, 2024, 14:52:24
All i wanted was further information, there is no need to be rude.

I was replying to Broadgage who had made the previous post, and, unfortunately, had rather hijacked your original question with his own unique brand of propaganda.  Wink

Then again this is just a rumour isn’t it.

Indeed.  Perhaps GWR (Great Western Railway) 158 can tell us from where he heard the rumour?
67  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: 2024 Delays and Cancellations - North Cotswold Line on: February 26, 2024, 11:05:12
RTT» (Real Time Trains - website) uses generic internal industry codes which aren’t necessarily ‘customer friendly’ or indeed always make sense.
68  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: GWR IETs Issue on: February 26, 2024, 09:11:50
Sounds like a great idea to me.  Perhaps it will allow GWR (Great Western Railway) to operate that service to Fantasy Island at long last so we can come visit you.

I think Louise Haigh pretty much nails it.  Though it wasn’t a particularly difficult nail to hit!
70  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: 2024 Delays and Cancellations - North Cotswold Line on: February 24, 2024, 11:06:44
With no end in sight, and worsening availability of IETs (Intercity Express Train), the situation can’t continue.  Something needs to change and I can’t see Hitachi making any significant improvements to IET reliability.  It should have and would have happened by now.
I very largely agree, though no doubt a few diehard IET supporters will still maintain that IETs are excellent and that the problems lie elsewhere.

Part of the problem lying elsewhere is very much connected with the 12 5-car units that are covering regional diagrams today that were being covered by Castle Class or other units until recently.

You wanted them on regional services?  You've got your wish.  See the attached image.

Due to the decisions on rolling stock made by the DfT» (Department for Transport - about), the whole GWR (Great Western Railway) fleet is being stretched too far.

Love the last one!
72  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Inspectors or should I say R.P.I.'s to be introduced on First bus on: February 23, 2024, 13:50:49
Also, how does an RPI (Revenue Protection Inspector (or Retail Price Index, depending on the context)) officer valid a contactless payment?

AIUI (as I understand it) The railway RPI’s have a device which can check a contactless payment has been made (or that someone has ‘tapped in’, even if the journey isn’t complete), so I would imagine the same sort of system will be available for buses?
73  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Infrastructure problems in Thames Valley causing disruption elsewhere - ongoing, since Oct 2014 on: February 19, 2024, 20:18:55
Sorry to hear that, Nick.

Disruption now until 19.00 with Maidenhead, Slough and Twyford not being served by GWR (Great Western Railway). Lovely.

The semi-fasts resumed with the 12-car 17:51 PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains)-DID» (Didcot Parkway - next trains).
75  Journey by Journey / South Western services / Re: Wokingham resignalling on: February 19, 2024, 14:14:51
Perhaps a slight shame that the l-o-n-g sections through Sandhurst and Crowthorne didn't get an extra signal section added to reduce headways?  Though at least the signal numbering allows them to be inserted at a later date.
