Railway signalman Dave Walden died peacefully at home on Sunday, May 17 after suffering with a short illness, aged 71.

David Warren Walden was born on March 14, 1944 in New Milton, Hampshire. At age 14, the Walden family moved to Southampton and Mr Walden carried on his education at Bitterne Park Secondary School.


Growing up along the main railway line between Bournemouth and London Waterloo, Mr Walden and his brother Phillip would spend a lot of time train watching and he would often combine his love of trains with photography.

Still enthusiastic to live out his childhood loves, Mr Walden got a job at Bradford on Avon train station working in the ticket office for First Great Western.

Dave Walden was a stallward supporter of rail, of the Severn Valley Railway, and of the West Wilts Rail User Group. A real gentleman with a deep knowledge quietly conveyed.  He'll be truly missed.

Two benches unveiled to commemorate Bradford on Avon's former station manager

TWO benches were unveiled at Bradford on Avon's station on Tuesday to commemorate a year to the day since the death of former station master David Walden.

More than 50 people, including Great Western Railway (GWR^▸ (Great Western Railway)) representatives, Wessex Rail Partnership, town councillors, members of the station's garden group and friends and family, were in attendance for a buffet thrown by GWR.

Well over ^1000 was donated to get this project up and running and according to current chairman of the station's garden group and good friend Tony Green, his siblings Phillip Walden and Sue Street were touched by it all.
