Reference to continued steam on BR (British Rail(ways)) off the main line being to locomotives no. 7, 8 and 9??

The V of R for those who don't know where those locos operated.

V of R is of course the narrow gauge Vale of Rheidol line from Aberystwyth to Devils Bridge.

( At least we have the Sleeper for Cornwall .......
I hear that DfT» (Department for Transport - about) are procuring new matresses for that !!   Grin

Well they couldn't be any worse than the NHS mattress that I endured 25 years ago.

Oh dear !!!! JourneyCheck doesn't say which depot but I presume this to be SPM (St Philip's Marsh (Bristol depot)) so are we in for a day of disruption of west services today.  Huh  Roll Eyes

06:43 Bristol Temple Meads to Penzance due 11:27
06:43 Bristol Temple Meads to Penzance due 11:27 will be started from Plymouth.
It will no longer call at Bristol Temple Meads, Weston-super-Mare, Taunton, Tiverton Parkway, Exeter St Davids, Exeter St Thomas, Dawlish, Teignmouth, Newton Abbot, Totnes and Ivybridge.
This is due to a derailment within the depot.
934  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: MetroBus on: August 10, 2018, 20:39:07
.... And maybe because only TfL» (Transport for London - about) is powerful enough to get multiple operators to use one system.

What about the "Bristol Freedom Travelpass" ticket available for travel on most buses and trains within an area bounded in the west by Weston-S-M, in the east by Freshford and the north by both Pilning and Yate. The ticket is available in a combination of zones and for periods of 1 day, 7 days or a calendar month. My only gripe with this ticket is the map shows Cribbs Causeway to be north of Pilning in Zone C when the blob for Cribbs should be next to Patchway in Zone A.
935  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: 1Y35 0827 Heathrow T5 to Paddington 10/08/2018 on: August 10, 2018, 12:03:37
Today 10/08/2018. 1Y35 (0827 Heathrow T5 to Paddington) sat down on the Up Main just west of Southall at 0838. Still there at 1040. At least they can run around it via the Down Main. Hope they don't leave it too long before they consider a controlled evacuation...

On up relief at Ealing Broadway @ 11:12

Still there @ 11:42 with 5G29 - 2P31 - 2Y22 - 2P32 - 9P23 all lined up behind it on the relief line with approaching trains being switched to up main line at Southall West.

Off up relief into HEX Depot @ 12:00.

938  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The West - but NOT trains in the West / Re: Mad Bishop & Bear closing for refurbishment - Aug 2018 on: August 09, 2018, 16:26:56
For those who fancy a pint at Paddington before boarding a train you may like to know the Mad Bishop & Bear is temporarily closing for refurbishment.

It will be shut from 12th August to the 17th September.

A time for a temporary "pop-up" bar at the gateline(s).
939  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Boardmasters, 2018 on: August 09, 2018, 07:29:16
Might be a better option than what I am doing.  Stuffing 1,000 envelopes with various items, sticking stamps on and then filling every postbox within a one mile radius.

Would you rather key in 1000 e-mail addresses, identify a few attachments to each address and press the send key, it would be cheaper no envelopes to pay for and stamps to purchase.
940  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: The Consultation is On! on: August 08, 2018, 06:38:38
The average train journey (a few years back) was 20 miles [[not sure how that was calculated]], compared to 6 miles by bus.

Where did this data come from, I live in an area which is widely regarded as a dormitory town for Bristol and in the morning and evening peaks we have had "express" bus services to Bristol and from 03 September these are being extended to run all day until early evening with longer duration journeys running until a last bus from Bristol at 23.35 daily. Distance about 12 miles. I could also make a similar repeat statement regarding the town of Thornbury. We also have a, reopened in 1989, rail station from which we have been promised a half hourly rail service in the future, hourly now, how far in the future is in the "lap of the gods" knowing how long it takes the rail organisations to do what is normally viewed as a simple task.
941  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Paddington platform 9 closed 08/08/2018 on: August 08, 2018, 05:58:38
JourneyCheck informing that platform 9 at PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) is closed some services being terminated at Reading, mainly Bedwyn services when I checked.
942  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: The Consultation is On! on: August 08, 2018, 05:45:50
Condemn me if you wish but I did not take part in the consultation because my days of long distance rail travel looks to be a relic of the past, Glasgow is where I fledge my wings to and when I can get one way fares on Easyjet from / to Bristol for as little as £22.66 to and £24.68 from Scotlands second city then regards competing modes of transport there is "no contest".
943  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Problems with the Night Riviera sleeper - December 2014 onwards on: August 07, 2018, 10:28:22
Even more common sense was applied, by having the Cardiff train use Platform 12 at Reading with the sleeper on 13 for cross platform interchange.   Shocked

Was it, or did the Network Rail signaller suggest it ? Who ever it was, good thinking.
944  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Problems with the Night Riviera sleeper - December 2014 onwards on: August 07, 2018, 05:57:33
Well common sense tells you it would!   Wink

Has someone in GWR (Great Western Railway) HQ (Headquarters) got some ? Tell that to Grahame with his missed connections.

23:45 London Paddington to Penzance Sleeper Train

Due to a fault affecting the locomotive pulling the sleeper service from London Paddington to Penzance, and the necessity to replace it with another locomotive from Reading Train Care Depot, the 23:45 from London Paddington to Penzance will start at Reading at 00:46. Sleeper train customers will be able to make use of the First Class Lounge at Paddington, and should catch the 23:30 Cardiff train and alight at Reading to connect into their sleeper train.

Pity the passenger(s) who arrives at Paddington at 23:31 or will the 23.30 to Cardiff be held till 23:45.
