Due to a broken rail between Llanelli and Llandovery all lines are closed.

Due to a broken rail between Ferryside and Llanelli all lines are disrupted.

Network Rail report that there have been multiple incidents of extensive damaged track and/or train detection equipment between Kidwelly and Llanelli and also in the Bynea area of the route for trains operating Heart of Wales services. This has been caused by the passage of a freight train, after a wagon became damaged during the journey, earlier today.
The Swansea District line between Llanelli and Briton Ferry has also been affected and is closed to all trains. Arriva Trains Wales only have a limited service advertised over this route.

Looking at RTT» (Real Time Trains - website) it appears that the 0500 Robeston-Westerleigh Oil was the culprit, as this disappeared from the system after Morlais Junction.

Pretty much everything between Swansea and Carmarthen / Central Wales line cancelled after about 08:45 until close of play.

At the last count there were 9 (!) confirmed breaks in the rails. Will take a bit of effort to repair that lot.

What on earth happened to a wagon that allowed it to cause all of that damage?!  Huh

I did wonder about that, but dismissed it as not being enough to have broken a rail 9 times, but then I am a mere layman. I guess RAIB (Rail Accident Investigation Branch) will be examining this one, given the amount of damage caused and the likelihood of following trains being affected quite severely?

Now reported elsewhere as a broken wagon brake frame.
