1  Journey by Journey / Swindon to Gloucester / Cheltenham / Re: no train service 21 august to 24 august 2023 on: August 22, 2023, 11:35:11
From New Civil Engineer

Quote
Track work that was due to be conducted this week near Stroud train station in Gloucestershire has been delayed by Network Rail due to the discovery of dormice in the area.

Quote
Also included in this programme of works are plans to cut back overgrown vegetation and improve drainage between Kemble and Sapperton stations.

Sapperton station? Is there something we should be told...?  Grin

Ah, the joys of US Immigration. I found an old, expired passport the other day and it has literally hundreds of US entry stamps in it. Each one probably represents a good couple of hours of d***ing about in immigration queues. I might add up the days of my life wasted and send Joe Biden a bill for my time  Grin

So glad that my travelling days are largely over.

And what on earth is the 'Local Democracy Reporting Service'?

Edit: Ah, it explains itself further down the page.

This could be a grave threat to our favourite "where was I today quizzes" ........

Where was I today?

A. Wormwood Scrubs

B. Belmarsh

C. Dartmoor

The box in the top right-hand corner of the Coffee Shop home page says:

"No 'On This Day' events reported for 4th Jul"

I always suspected that the Americans were making a lot of fuss about nothing  Grin

Llangollen Railway may have to cut services as it stops buying Russian coal:

I'm curious about their financial model. $1,400 income per trip with two crew and CAPEX costs would suggest a pretty slim margin for the operator...?
10  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: Trains told to get rid of torrent of 'Tannoy spam' on: January 24, 2022, 15:46:44
There was also a piece on Radio 2 on Friday. Tina Daheley (a very refreshing stand-in for Jeremy Vine) interviewed Janine Cooper-Marshall - the current voice of GWR (Great Western Railway), she of the familiar 'Lundun Paddington' Welsh lilt.

Starts at 1:37-ish - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0013jsl

The Radio 2 schedule run-down at the end of the item is quite fun.

I just saw this news item on the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) website:

It said further restrictions might be needed until the bridge "can be strengthened or replaced"

Replaced? A little ironic given all the previous fuss...?

Still unhappy with the brightness or colour temperature of IET (Intercity Express Train) carriage lighting?

Lisa and I had first met on the road outside the London Rubber Company's factory.
As first dates go, that's quite special! Cheesy

I hope you're still Mates... Grin
