My partner was caught up in this, trying to get back to Bath early this morning. Her journey from Swindon to Bath ended up taking about 2 hours and having to go via Temple Meads. Apparently it was due to a suicide between 'Bristol and Swindon' and information about whether she could actually get back home in time was very unclear (nobody she spoke to in Swindon seemed to know if any trains were running from Bristol to Bath, which it turned out they were).

... Apparently it was due to a suicide between 'Bristol and Swindon' ...

Err ... "person hit by train" ... I've not seen any confirmation whether or not the person passed away.   And it's down to an inquest should the person have passed away to establish cause of death, with suicide being just one option that would be considered.

Apologies, but that is what I was told was said to passengers waiting at Swindon (I wasn't there myself), so was just relaying that information on. But your point is well made.

Further update at https://www.wiltshire999s.co.uk/man-died-railway-british-transport-police/

Quote
A man who died on the railway in Wiltshire was a veteran British Transport Police (BTP (British Transport Police)) officer.

James ‘Jim’ Hutcheson was fatally struck by a train on tracks in the Langley Burrell area of Chippenham in the early hours of Wednesday (25 May).

The 51-year-old served as a BTP officer for nearly 28 years, before leaving the national force responsible for policing the country’s railway network in late 2021.
