Watching First Dates ... she said "I came from Southampton" and he said "I live in Chippenham. Right beside the station. I can get a train straight through to see you". Truly, the TransWilts is in the very fabric of people's thoughts and lives.

GWR (Great Western Railway) will do everything in their power to ruin the courtship.

I beg to differ.  They'll be thrown together, never to be parted.  Whilst there are indeed direct train services from Chippenham to Southampton 10 times a week (scheduled at 06:26 and 19:03 on Mondays to Fridays), there are as yet no direct trains back - those having been withdrawn some 15 years ago.

You are assuming that he bloke is doing the travelling.  If she is travelling they will not meet.
The solution is a Brief Encounter at Westbury.

No assumption - he was expressing a desire "I can come to [see] you ..."  very keen.   I wondered if he was too keen, but they did head off in a taxi. "Where too" ... "nearest bar".  Pity the poor cabby for such a tiny fare!

I hope he doesn't actually live 'right beside the station'. The station is surrounded by car parks on all sides and the only adjacent building is the workplace that always used to display a huge UKIP banner before the referendum.  Huh
