From the FGW (First Great Western) website :

"With everyone^s mind on reducing carbon footprints, many of us are looking for greener ways to spend weekends and leisure time. Train operator First Great Western, which has seen an increase in leisure passengers has helped provide inspiration by producing a guide to the top ten National Trust properties closest to its stations across the South of England and Wales." Three more great possibilities - Lacock, Corsham Court and The Courts in Holt.  All three are really worth seeing.

First run buses from the nearest railhead to all of these - although the services aren't as good as to many of the other places chosen.  Corsham Court is on the Bath to Chippenham but route, and Lacock in between Chippenham and Melksham.   The 237 bus from Trowbridge to Melksham serves "The Courts".
