In his Great British Railways series it was nice to see him go back to Settle and meet those who had campaigned to save the line. He rated the reprieve as his greatest political achievement.
For greatest? or only? !

Fair enough, no announcements at Frome though, and now - it gets worse,  having altered my day's plan I am now at Westbury with the 1955 back to Frome cancelled.  Oh what a happy day!

Not very impressed with FGW (First Great Western) cancelling 1249 Frome to Weymouth today, (well it seems that it wasn't really cancelled, just didn't stop) the other trains just ran late but left us with a 5 hour gap between trains southwards from Frome, surely better to cancel one on a more frequent service?

Thank you all, taking it all on board, it just amazes me that it's not 2 months' old yet and you can't read the number, my name or the issuing station any more just a scribbled date on the back!

Just an update about my faded Railcard.
I took it to Trowbridge ticket office yesterday for a replacement, together with the stamped receipt. He barely spoke two words to me, just took the Railcard out of its wallet, peered at it, I told him that I had the receipt with the expiry date and number on it, he didn't seem interested. He wrote the expiry date on the back and stamped the back and wrote PTO on the front. When I told him that he had written 11 OCT 14 instead of 17 OCT he peered at it again (still didn't look at the receipt), said 'Yes' and changed the 11 to 17. I don't think he was having a good day somehow. I can foresee problems with this in a few months time if it continually has to be taken out of the wallet for the reverse to be looked at. Strange, he's usually such a cheerful chap!

You were right not to bet on that! I happened to travel back at the same time as the said ladies and witnessed how they got away with it (even at BTH» (Bath Spa - next trains) barrier) I shall not elaborate just in case any of their friends are looking for advice.

I caught the 1015 Frome to Bath yesterday (06/12/2013) which was full and standing, and the usual carriage added at Westbury wasn't there, so pretty busy as far as Bath. I followed two girls to the barrier where staff were shouting "We don't need to see your tickets, the barriers are open", outside the station door 1st girl: "We could have done that for free."  2nd girl: "We did." 1st girl: "Oh yes!" !

Just got informed by ticket inspector that my Senior Railcard is rather faded. Well I had noticed, my signature is still fine but the date, number and issuing station have nearly vanashed, and it's only 7 weeks old! Inks obviously not up to much at Frome that day.  I don't want to send it away for a replacement, any ideas?
175  Journey by Journey / Heart of Wessex / Re: Digital Doris can't count and fibs! on: December 04, 2013, 16:08:30
I agree. I specifically gave up my car six years ago to use the train nearly every day, back then you could at least usually get on the said train! FGW (First Great Western) seem to be proud that HoW(resolve) usage has increased (nearly doubled) but no extra trains. I make a point of never complaining to FGW staff because I think they do a fantastic job with the equipment available.

Yes, sorry, I forgot all about 'calling on' signals. It seemed like a bright idea whilst perfecting my sardine impressions on Saturday!
Anyway, I wish every success to all those involved in the new improved Trans Wilts on Sunday, have a good day, I'm sorry that I can't be there, but I look forward to a trip to Melksham one day next week.

On Saturday 30th November 2013 I was waiting at Frome for the 1007 to Gloucester. According to the announcements the train was delayed by "an unusually large passenger flow" and that "this train has four coaches" which it usually has had recently. When I saw that the approaching train had only two coaches I made haste to the centre of the platform and just managed to board. The train was vastly overcrowded, very uncomfortable, and many passengers were left behind. I would submit that rather than the train being delayed by the passenger flow it was delayed by the short formation. Two extra carriages were waiting at Westbury to be attached, there were already quite a few passengers on board, and by the time we left it was pretty well filled from the overflow from the original unit. It was back to full and standing at Trowbridge. Would it not have been possible to have run the unit waiting at Westbury to Frome given that train and station staff were aware of the (potential) passenger numbers? While it might not cause too much inconvenience to be left behind where there is another train 20 minutes or so later, a two and a half hour wait for the next train is a little unreasonable if you happen to have just purchased a ticket.

Raise the road and install a level crossing.

For the first time in at least two months I decided this morning not to travel today but work from home, oh what it is to be clairvoyant! Seriously though, I wish all of you, wherever you happen to be stuck, a speedy remainder of your journey.
