Indeed but I suspect it started with Edge Hill, particularly given how the locals are having a laugh about this.   I led a pretty sheltered early life in Surrey and never heard anything similar about Vauxhall or Battersea Park.........

I gather in Scotland getting off at Haymarket has the same meaning.  I think the meaning makes more sense when there is a tunnel between the point of alighting and , er, the final destination.

Initial blame has fallen on the owner of land at the top of the embankment, for illegally storing a large number of shipping containers there.
