Well many passengers are seeing huge fare rises from the 15th December, as GWR (Great Western Railway) are secretly tinkering with the evening peak restrictions out of Paddington to the Thames Valley.

Another good one is the current 1707 Frome service, becomes the 1708 to Bedwyn, with the caraveat that it gets downgraded to a 5 car service.

I thought all the turbos were modified so that the guard could open the local door, like what happens on the 150s that stop there.

Spent an unintended hour at Avoncliff station yesterday, my intended train the 1304, skipped our stop so I had to wait another hour for the 1404.

I got talking to another passenger and he said this is a common issue and he's considering using the car instead!

Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it a common issue?

Seemed to be plenty of 8 coach formations out today, and for once my train was on time!
Although there are still a few 4 car diagrams out today as well.

Pretty sure they're both at Reading at the moment, just that 150001 is stopped.

It was 2 turbos on Thursday, I couldn't see any of them at the depot. I've heard rumours that 150001 is getting repainted green.

The Thames Valley stoppers have a turnaround of about 30 minutes at Reading and about 10 Minutes at Paddington

Apologies if this is in the wrong place/ mentioned already.

The original plan was, when the new thameslink stock is introduced, the class 319's would be split between the North West, and the Thames Valley.
However I heard that the Thames Valley would get the class 387's instead. Is this true? what would happen to the class 377/5's?

This is part of a minor refurb on class 166's.

It includes removing one of the first class areas,putting in wifi and power plugs.

Went on a train today to Reading, I didn't see many 166's

As IndustryInsider says, these yellow lights are used by staff. They're known as Cantrail Lights, and unofficially as BILs/DILs.

An illuminated Cantrail light could mean a loss of door interlock, a passcom activation, a fire alarm or a Track Circuit Actuator fault (there are other indications in the driving cab which help identify which is which).


I accept that their purpose is other than to inform passengers that the doors can be opened, but that is how passengers perceive them, especially if they are used to travelling on the tube.  I've seen trains being delayed as passengers try in vain to open the doors on a locked out set, in fact I've done it myself before now.

The clue of course is where the Driver stops (if there are different stop boards for different train lengths).   If a 5 car comes in and stops by the 2 Car Board, then that's the clue that the back 3 are locked out of use.


This was platform 1 at Twyford, where the only stop board is a "HST (High Speed Train) Stop". The train went all the way to the end of the platform.

They would have been moving 2 trains together, but as there as no corrider connection on the 165s/166s and if its not busy it makes sense to only use 2 carriages
The train Was Standing Room only. Also on a Sunday Trains to Oxford are normally 5 coaches long.
