1231  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Bristol Airport - expansion plans, car parking, public transport links - ongoing discussion on: November 19, 2014, 18:55:52
In fact the last time I flew from Bristol was on an airline called GO which dates it Smiley

The last time I flew from Lulsgate was with Dan-Air! 1982.  Shocked
Davies and Newman Airways IIRC (if I recall/remember/read correctly).

I wonder whether this bus runs on Bullsh1t ?.
1233  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Application to demolish building at Avonmouth station on: November 14, 2014, 14:47:40
I have just come back from having a look a this site it would seem that what is left of the former parcels building at avonmouth is quite solid with a decent roof and chimneys  and some work has been done to the pointing and lead work on them in the last few years so all in all it does not look like its in danger of falling over the site has good access to both the platform on the side and the road and footpath on the end near to the level crossing  one thing that does not show up in the pictures is the recent addition of a secure cage for the storage of cycles and at the time of my visit this was open but was not being used the building is in keeping with the style of the area and to be fair is the only real part of any railway structure that remains on the site the platform on the other side not being anything to speak of

Along the same line, looking at sadly long-disused stations near Melksham: Seend?

Yes indeed ... Seend.  Once a busy loop on the branch from Holt via Devizes to Patney and Chirton, and even with a narrow gauge connection to the  Iron Works

Would that be Seend Twined with the Island of Sodor ?
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Rev W Audrey lived not far away.

Just as a matter of interest what is the 75 year old stock that is still on the network ?.

When I first saw this thread I wondered just how long it would be before that creep got into the conversation !
not what you would call Peter Parkers best idea with the benefit of hindsight
which is a shame when you think of just how well the HST (High Speed Train) has done us for all these years .
