16  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Dawlish - permanent resilience work - ongoing discussions on: April 08, 2024, 17:25:49
It's certainly come on a lot since I walked the coast path between Teignmouth and Dawlish in August 2022....by the look of it, you probably can't do that again untill it's finished.

The likes of Just Eat and Deliveroo will just say not our problem, they "employ" a person to deliver stuff, the means by which that that person achieves the delivery is that persons

It makes me wonder what stance the likes of Deliveroo and Just Eat have to their logos being emblazoned on illegally modified delivery e-bikes.  They give the impression of being pretty indifferent about it.
18  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Landslip on the Filton Diamond? on: April 07, 2024, 13:37:26
We've got family living by the Filton Diamond who sent me this picture of works going on at the back of their house.  First they knew of it was floodlights and chainsaws at early o'clock in late March clearing the bank.  Looks like quite a landslip to me but the line (Parkway to Patchway/Severn Tunnel) is still open....and there seems to be no speed restriction going by the rate that some of the freight trains seem to have gone by.
Has anyone got a bit more info on the works that I can pass on?
Here's a couple of pictures from just after work started and more recently:
19  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Breaking the £1 per mile fare barrier on: April 06, 2024, 10:41:04
Cardiff Bay to Cardiff Queen Street is now £2.70 for around a mile and Stourbridge Junction to Stourbridge Town is £1.50 for 0.8mile.

Edit to add the eye watering £1 for 300 metres on the Kingsbridge and District Light Railway!   Cheesy

21  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: New station at Ashley Down, Bristol on: April 04, 2024, 14:57:35
There's been visible progress since I last took a picture from the same location so I thought that I'd post one from today to show the difference.
The access is coming on as well but as it was a tad busy there I decided best not to get in the way to take a picture.... perhaps save that for a sunny evening when it's quiet.
22  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bonaparte's at Bristol Temple Meads on: April 04, 2024, 14:26:46
The change leaves me with divided opinions.  I liked the look of the wood panelled ceiling but the revealed glass roof also looks splendid.  Environmentally, while the panelling keeps the heat in better, the glass allows for much less artificial lighting.  I wonder what will be favoured?

Edit to correct sentence.
23  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bristol Temple Meads Station redevelopment on: April 03, 2024, 17:04:50
You can't really see much of the work going on above your head for the refurbishment of the Temple Meads canopy because of the temporary work ceiling that the task necessitates.  Today though, you could see things going on from outside (pictured) including an orange clad individual who clearly has a head for heights.
24  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bonaparte's at Bristol Temple Meads on: April 03, 2024, 13:55:30
I've just spotted this today.  The wood panelled ceiling has been removed revealing a lantern roof in Boney's.  Is that  a recent change or did it come down when the temporary ticket office was removed?

Even the Monster Raving Looney Party had one of their early policies realised in the form of extended pub hours!  Meanwhile, not a million miles from there old Ashburton nerve centre..........

There's been an interesting announcement on the Heathfield Rail Link Association Facebook pages.  Apparently Lampitt Rail Services have surveyed the entire Heathfield branch line for Eversholt Rail and Revolution Vehicle Light Rail to look at the viability of turning the branch line into light rail infrastructure.

I've been on it!  A couple of times.... purely to accompany various grandchildren you understand!
I remember the old steam one too, on the other side of the quay.  It closed back in the 80s and few traces remain.
The new railway was funded by a "share issue" and has been running for a few years now from the "Ria End" station up towards the quayside Crabshell Inn.....a splendid destination for a sunny afternoon.
