2161  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: January 15, 2015, 20:07:39
Number of things noticed today.

At Stapleton Road there was a company boring soil test holes in the old track bed where the farm use to be.

White water filled barriers have been place up Filton bank from the access point by the Ford dealership up to Horfield Station

Also seen in a number of locations over the past few days have been a group taking pictures of the vegetation that needs clearing lineside.

Some sign of movement at last...and the electrification is getting closer day by day.

Although not my MP (Member of Parliament), I will email Charlotte Lesile to ask her to keep campaigning for a change of mind.

My rush hour journeys to Bath or my other ones on the Severn Beach Line can be very overcrowded.... just as madly dangerous as the London Tube journeys as when I was young and handsome!
2164  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bristol Temple Meads Station redevelopment on: January 10, 2015, 21:20:58
Had a quick visit on the Severn Riviera Express to TM(resolve) from Redland today. Sad to see the planned removal of the old 1970's footing has not progressed, nor has the proposed Dec 2014 vegetation clearance on the Filton Bank seemed to have begun. The biggest disappointment was that the on train revenue collection on the Saturday services that I was on was again non existent.... both there and back again, despite large numbers of passengers.

The only thing I have to add is that is was definitely the 1970's from my online research. I was a bit too young to notice the first time I trundled into Temple Meads in 1978! Does the Government Printing Office (GPO(resolve)) have an archive?

Great pics, job done, looks so much better. Old 1970's brick footing buildings going soon?
2167  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Station at Ashton, Bristol on: December 16, 2014, 23:10:53
These posts show the immense differences in organisational structure and political will/vision of different parts of the country. For me, any initiatives to speed up the process in Bristol (and elsewhere) to modernise and develop urban rail are to be saluted.
2168  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: December 16, 2014, 23:02:42
It's been there for a few months...just off the track line on the line of the far platform which is apparently not being reinstated. My guess is that it's a foundation for the electrificaction to Wales (sub station or similar).
2169  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Station at Ashton, Bristol on: December 16, 2014, 19:57:19
The experience from Manchester is that if you can get a successful line off the ground then getting funding to add more stations later is much easier.

You can rationally see how this would be the case.  However, Bristol's problem comes with the urgency bourne of years of delay and missed opportunities resulting in chronic traffic problems that need stations like that at Ashton Gate rather sooner than is currently being offically proposed. It will be interesting to see how influencial this Ashton Gate station team will be.  I wish them well.
2170  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: December 13, 2014, 20:38:16
Not yet seen any sign that the December "to be confirmed" start date for vegetation clearance on Filton Bank has commenced. Huh
2171  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Filton Abbey Wood - a great success? Emulate it just to the north?? on: December 13, 2014, 20:33:11
I currently work at Aztec West and have over the past couple of years looked at the adjacent railway line and thought "what if?"  The traffic is eye-watering during rush hour. My experiences of getting buses to work and home are best left un-recounted for fear of my having to lie down in a darkened room for the rest of the evening. It would certainly be a challenging candidate for some creative engineering solutions and with that comes, I fear, some considerable expense.  That said, it's getting so bad there that there could now be a credible business case in it's favour. The observations from the previous posts only serve to add force to this notion.
2172  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bristol Temple Meads Station redevelopment on: December 10, 2014, 22:57:19
Well, it's vanishing quickly now. Seen people still working on it after 8pm last Wednesday sort of explains why. They even seemed to be working after a quick homeward aperitif in Bonapartes before the 20.34 "Severn Riviera Express" to Redland. Not being an expert here but how long to they work till?

That is shocking to hear that rail operatives are working after imbibing alcohol at Bonapartes. I would never do that, never in a million years.

I would go to the Knights Templar, where beer is much cheaper. They are paying these guys too much. No wonder it costs so much to get the train to Severn Beach.
Oops, it was yours truley imbibing a prompt refreshment in Bonapartes rather than the contractors, who were still hard at it removing the cladding over the platforms at the time.... bet they were thirsty as me though!

Just a quick update on the now vanishing conveyor bridge..... well, it's even missing some of it's walkway for part of it's length and loads of the lower frames are no more. As for the refurb of the Avon Bridge on the "loop", well done I say, looks good!
2175  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bristol Temple Meads Station redevelopment on: November 29, 2014, 21:20:37

Yes, that could be an idea. Other surviving Severn Beach Line station buildings at Redland and Montpelier have been put to alternative uses.
