1456  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: UK Discontinuous Electrification on: April 28, 2020, 20:29:57
There has been a discussion of and/or link to that Twitter thread before. I can't remember where or when. I'd guess October last year and either the GWML (Great Western Main Line) electrification thread or the general technical electrification thread, but it could well have been somewhere else.
1457  Journey by Journey / London to Didcot, Oxford and Banbury / Re: Tackley - Level crossing in Oxfordshire closes as new footbridge opens on: April 28, 2020, 20:21:41
Glad to see the stepped bridge is temporary there are plans to replace with a wheel-accessible subway. Perhaps by the time they've completed that, trains might be calling again!
1458  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Great Western Main Line electrification - ongoing discussion on: April 28, 2020, 08:41:08
On the Didcot side however there is the New A34 bridge (not that useful for local traffic), one at Milton Park and there are several in Didcot.  The diversion through Draycot would be about 6 miles.  There have been more inconvenient diversions.
6 miles is a long way if not driving.

Now TransWilts has secured a major three-year support package from Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems UK (United Kingdom), based in Melksham, ... and even a community café!

That is both tragic and delightful!  Grin

Technically Gloucester Road wouldn't quite fit – it's still Cheltenham Road at the Arches – but for the areal, yes. Or maybe the station could be called The Arches?

What about Cat & Wheel Station?
Grin I haven't been in there since, ooh, 1988 I think. But it's still there! It's probably been there even longer than the Doctor Marten's shop...  Cheesy

1462  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: April 27, 2020, 09:00:02
They were also doing some drainage work, not sure if that matches the place.

“Further up the line towards Bristol Parkway we're working on the Filton Bank - improving drainage at Horfield/Lockleaze & nr Filton Abbey Wood“

That's what I saw. Same place, same view!

And France isn't the only European country to have some sort of priority to the right where not cancelled by diamonds/lights/other markings.
1464  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: April 26, 2020, 21:02:44
Does that mean altering the positioning of those red tracks in a subtle way or simply replacing the physical track? It surely can't be worn out?
1465  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: April 26, 2020, 20:14:21
There lots of work with ballast and, I think, tamping, happening on Filton Bank today around the Constable Road area. Vehicles and orange jackets with both NR» (Network Rail - home page) and DB» (Deutsche Bahn - German State Railway - about) logos.

If we're doing not-possessions, Temple Meads. In fact I'll expand on that: the entirety of Bristol south of approximately Welsh Back, east of Filton Bank, and west of Clifton Down.
1467  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Great Western Main Line electrification - ongoing discussion on: April 26, 2020, 20:03:33
Putting facts to one side for a minute ( Roll Eyes) and looking at the emotions involved, a good outcome is one which allows everyone to feel they've won, and that seems to be the case here. The bridge hasn't been demolished, OHLE is complete.
1468  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: What your station might have been called [DotD 26.4.20] on: April 26, 2020, 19:56:00
Redland Station in Bristol could have so easily have been named Cotham as the boundary between the two suburbs is widely regarded as the Severn Beach Line on which lies.
Was going to post exactly this, and it's right next to Cotham Gardens. I guess it would be a bit more, but only a tiny bit more, of a push for Montpellier to have been St Andrew[']s.
1469  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: The Magic Roundabout on: April 26, 2020, 19:52:26
I spent a few months in Paris from autumn 1988 to spring 1989 and I remember the Arc de Triomphe roundabout being completely gridlocked, to the extent that you could walk from central Arc island to the outside, sauntering between the cars as if they were cafe tables. Which I think many of them functioned as for their occupants.

Cash. I've still got some in my wallet because it was there BC but I have no intention of using it. I was surprised to find one shop still following a £5 card minimum – so I just added some noodles (it was a Korean shop) to my basket! And correspondingly, ATMs(resolve).
Front door key. Even when going out I've left it behind because nowadays there's almost always someone at home.
