As mentioned here and earlier on, these tours are booked out in the blink of an eye. I've had zero success in getting myself on a tour over some years. There must be people waiting online for the very second that tickets become available to book them. Sells out quicker than Glasto or the FA Cup.

I managed to get on one of the tunnel tours in 2016. It wasn't part of Open Doors but a GWR▸ (Great Western Railway) 175th anniversary event. It included a tunnel tour followed by ferry boat to ss Great Britain and guided tour of the ship/museum.

The BTM tunnels are not included in the Open Doors weekend in September, which is a shame. Anyone know why this is?

There is another side of course. I can't be alone in when I decide I want some refreshment, I want it now, not when the trolley finally appears!  I would much rather walk to the buffet and have a full range of hot and cold snacks, freshly brewed coffee etc, rather than a poor choice of crisps and nuts off a trolley with lukewarm coffee from a flask!  I bet they never asked the questions like that in the survey where they got the support for trolleys!

The trolley service won't do much business if, as reported, they tend to hide in the first class kitchen, or if they can't get through a rammed 5 vice 10 coach train!

Yes I have noticed that as well. It is as though the windows have been washed but the process has not been completed, ie not rinsed/polished. It is like looking through a fog and does not give a good impression. I wonder if GWR▸ (Great Western Railway) have taken this up this with Hitachi?

Ironically, an empty 8 coach HST▸ (High Speed Train) followed the packed 5-coach 1A82 out of Plymouth. The HST was working 5Z66 Laira to Bristol SPM▸ (St Philip's Marsh (Bristol depot)) and is the train that will be used for tomorrow's HST farewell railtour.
