"Good news. Newquay needs a more regular and faster service. The success of the increased capacity on the Falmouth branch shows what could be achieved."
Indeed - some Falmouth services yesterday were reminiscent of urban rush-hour services. However, the tale of woe that greeted anyone trying to use branch line services to Gunnislake or Looe yesterday suggests that the first goal needs to be ensuring that resources are there to ensure / guarantee that the existing advertised service actually runs (and by "advertised service" I mean the service advertised as available when people are making plans several weeks in advance not "the service advertised online at 22.00 the previous evening"!)
Don't know why the first bit doesn't show as the quote it actually is!

Would imagine that 2020 - 2021 of all years is likely to be the one where the figures are least skewed by "casual visitors" - though there is a significant inflow of school pupils which seems to have returned to a greater extent than other commuters. What always intrigues me is the imbalance of Oldfield Park calls in the morning and afternoon "peaks". 6 calls on Bristol bound services at approximately 20 minute intervals between 07.00 and 09.00; only 4 in the opposite direction between 16.00 and 18.00 at approximately 40 - 20 - 40.

Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Re: Lots of faulty trains today, 12th March 2022

The additional comment on the long distance short-forms begs a question:
Further Information Customers travelling on any of the listed services please note that due to faults identified on some of our trains last night, these services will be formed of 9 coaches instead of the booked 10 coaches today. Please note this will affect any seat or bicycle reservations that have been made in advance. If you require any assistance with your reservation please speak with station staff before alighting or alternatively, speak with the train manager when your service arrives into the platform. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to your journey with us today.
Assuming this is correct, looks like another fleet issue raising its ugly head (or am I being over-pessimistic?)

Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / February 2022 - Ashley Down trackwork. Poor information flow

For several weeks we have been being informed by announcements of engineering work in late February affecting stopping services heading from Temple Meads to Severn Beach and Filton - and being directed "for further details" to gwr.com/bristol. With less than two weeks to go, those "details" are still conspicuous by their absence. By "details" I mean that all important piece of information - a timetable. Journey planners are all very well if you want to plan an individual journey at a particular time, but are nigh on useless if what you need to know is "what does the whole day's / morning's / afternoon's train service look like" because you're trying to work out the economics of season ticket renewal. Am I just looking in the wrong place, or aren't we going to be allowed to know when trains are going to run without looking up each one individually?

At least in terms of delay repay, then the "cut off point" is once a service has been advertised as running on a particular day at a particular time - then any qualifying failure should be accompanied by a liability to pay compensation. I can't help thinking that this is another reason that various train operators are trying to ditch PDF timetables - you can alter something on a journey planner at any time (no doubt, if you're devious, even retrospectively to be able to claim that train xyz never existed) but it's hard to argue with the professionally printed timetable someone has in their hand.

Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Supported Bus Services Consultation

Seems like yet another example of something that's been drawn up and then not been checked by people not involved in the drafting. You're invited to give information about all routes you use and are then given only one field in which to enter the stops / locations you are travelling between. While it would be almost impossible to allow for all possible answers, a bit of guidance as to what you do if you use (say) four different supported services at different times between a variety of locations would be helpful - especially given the fact that the enquiry covers both P&R▸ and "normal" services.
