I think it is quite clear that the post-election government policies are more roads.. And will presumably ignore this mornings offerings from the Committee on Climate Change.

I believe I saw a copy of the new Off-peak leaflet on the counter at Reading yesterday. They still haven't managed to put out all the new timetable leaflets.

Not a fan of strikes myself but do wonder if this sort of legislation can be counter productive. Seem to remember that they banned all strikes/union representation at GCHQ and then had to row back a few years later.

Also I have heard on Cotswold trains coming into Reading; change at Reading for Basingstoke, etc and Oxford. Then having to tell tourists to stay on the train because the announcement means stations to Oxford.

There was also the situation that stations ended up a long way from the town (or anywhere useful) because the local landed gentry didn't want their view spoilt or the dirt from steam engines etc.

It will be interesting to see what TfL^» (Transport for London - about) Rail has to offer in any way different to current policy on reducing accidents at Taplow etc.

It was a survey exercise, not sure at this distance in time as to whether it was purely a table-top exercise or whether they rode the country.
Proposed route goes east from Hungerford, generally following the line of the R. Kennet. After it crosses the R. Lambourne it routes towards Chieveley then Hampstead Norris where it turns north to Compton.
It continues north between Upton and Harwell (similar to Didcot to Newbury line?). East of Abingdon and than a broad sweep round towards Eynsham, then east of Handborough and Charlbury then follows the R. Evenlode round to Shipton.
Then skirts north towards Churchill and then to Chipping Norton.

The LMS^▸ (London Midland Scottish - 1923 to 1948) took over The Grove near Watford. The LNER^» (London North Eastern Railway - about) moved into The Hoo near Hitchin.

Off the top of my head, without the appropriate reference to hand, Deepdene was the war time (and after?) emergency HQ^▸ (Headquarters) for Southern Railway/Region.
