There was a proposal last year to link Slough to Terminal 5 via a new station at Windsor connecting with the SWT (South West Trains) line and branching off to a new track at Wraysbury. Not sure what's happening with it because the website hasn't been updated since January 2011.

I do wonder why they can't get the same air con as all the other train companies (SW trains and Chiltern spring to mind for example)...

On a warm summers day a few years back I took a trip on a Chiltern turbo which had been refurbished with air con. My memory is that the air con was situated above the seats (my seat in particular) where the luggage rack used to be. It was much more powerful than the FGW (First Great Western) units above the aisle and my poor bald patch took the brunt of the refrigeration. I had cold symptoms for several days afterwards.

Also there will be no over night running as with all other underground railways thats when maintenance will be done

I wonder if Crossrail or FGW (First Great Western) (or their successor) will run some sort of local overnight service between Paddington main line station and Reading as FGW do now, as this section is above ground.

Hayes & Harlington is a bit of a strange one as nothing seems to terminate there.

If there are problems at Heathrow, the Connect services tend to terminate on platform 5 at Hayes. I've noticed this a few times and this happened to me last year with only a few minutes notice. Can't remember what the problem was but I was planning to get off there anyway. Prior to the introduction of the Heathrow Connect, several peak time trains were timetabled to terminate at Hayes & Harlington.
1175  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Station Usage Figures - 09/10 on: February 28, 2011, 21:43:30
Seems odd that most stations between Paddington & Slough recorded quite a big decrease. Where have all the passengers gone? Did the daily ticket inspections at these stations for several months frighten fare dodgers away?

Ah, having re-read some of the earlier posts I think this can possibly be explained.
The figures are ticket sales
Oyster (Smartcard system used by passengers on Transport for London services) pay as you was introduced during the 09/10 period wasn't it? FGW (First Great Western) don't sell tickets on oyster so the reduced ticket sales at these FGW stations are probably the result of passengers topping up their ticket at their local corner shop.

Incidentally having moved away, my nearest FGW station is now Dorking Deepdene which isn't in the list above. Neither is Paddington unless I missed it. Smiley

If you're feeling nostalgic, you can watch Testcard W on most freeview TV's by pressing a few buttons on your remote control.

From the SWT (South West Trains) website www.southwesttrains.co.uk/Xmas2010.aspx

A limited First Great Western service will run to and from London Waterloo via Westbury and Salisbury during the closure of Reading station. Please see special publicity for details.

SWT seem to think trains are stopping there.
1178  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: Where have the station clocks gone? on: September 13, 2010, 00:23:20
As most of the turbo's do not have clocks in them anymore us at the sharp end are have no means to get an accurate time fix as the watches supplied are not the most accurate.

I don't remember seeing clocks inside the trains. Where were they?
