Yes, this was taken a good 20 minutes before the daily Chiltern service was due past and the signal was already cleared for it. After taking this I headed up to South Ruislip and following on from BNMs past thread All by myself..., caught the service to Paddington, although on this occasion it was a ratio of 2:2. Knowing that many passengers who use this are train enthusiasts, the guard twice made sure that I wasn't headed back up on that service, as from yesterday it runs fast to High Wycombe instead of previously to West Ruislip. Here it is at Paddington before heading to Wycombe I took that train in November as part of my to do list. I can safely say that it passes through some of the most uninspiring pieces of urban wasteland in the UK▸ (Park Royal area?) and have no plans to repeat the experience. Been there, done that, move on.

Attached is a view of the Severn Bridges taken from the site of the former Aust Services. It's a bit cheeky of the newer service area calling itself 'Severn View'. No view of the Severn whatsoever from there. You have to drive up to the Travelodge and then walk up the hill. In my case telling a member of Travelodge staff that I wasn't planning on jumping off the cliff when she asked where I and the dog were going.
Two Bridges? I see only one broken bridge. Has there been an earthquake? Edit... Oh, I've just seen the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the picture. Yes, there are two bridges

DOCUMENTARY: The Fifteen Billion Pound Railway On: BBC» 2 (2) Date: Monday 22nd May 2017 (starting in 6 days) Time: 21:00 to 22:00 (1 hour long) The Final Countdown. This series follows more than ten thousand engineers and construction workers as they race to complete the brand new railway directly underneath the city - Crossrail, London's new Underground. Costing fifteen billion pounds, it is the biggest engineering project in Europe. Linda Miller, an engineer more at home constructing space launch complexes, must build what will become Britain's busiest station - Farringdon - an underground structure longer than the Shard is tall. Linda and her team battle ancient fault lines, race to build emergency access tunnels to alleviate congestion and piece together a giant geometric jigsaw that will form a cathedral-sized station entrance. The episode ends with a very special visitor arriving on site to give the railway its new title. (Stereo, Widescreen, Subtitles, Audio Described, 5 Star) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Marked By: 'Category: Documentary' marker ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Excerpt taken from DigiGuide - the world's best TV guide available from http://www.getdigiguide.tv/?p=1&r=51610Copyright (c) GipsyMedia Limited. This was just advertised on BBC2 so would appear to be a new programme rather than a repeat.

so, more of a tweak than a rebrand ..... “Since welcoming Thamesdown into the Go South Coast family, we have introduced a number of positive changes, designed to further enhance the services we offer in the region,” said Andrew Wickham, Thamesdown managing director. “With a fleet of new buses set to arrive shortly, we wanted to freshen up our appearance - and we called upon the services of renowned public transport designer Ray Stenning of Best Impressions. We’re delighted by the new look livery created by them. “The response we received from people living and working in the area also led us to tweak our name, and I’m delighted to introduce Thamesdown…Swindon’s bus company. We love the whole new look - and we hope our customers will too.” With an attractive combination of blue, yellow, red, white and green, the branding gives a nod to Thamesdown’s heritage, whilst providing a bright and refreshing new appearance. http://www.thamesdown-transport.co.uk/feature-article.shtml?articleid=6888Seems odd that they publish an article praising their new appearance without any images! If they haven't actually repainted anything yet I would have thought that an artists impression could be made available.

Just out of interest (and I can't imagine it would have happened) but what would have happened if someone actually bought one of those tickets online? I expect the credit card company would have refused authorisation as an unusual payment on the account. If not and it was a joint account or a company account, use of the ticket would have been followed by some huge questions! [See Tim has a similar view - both posting at the same time!]Would they? Some season tickets are several thousand pounds a year. If you have a history of spending large amounts on your season ticket and this was close to your renewal date.......

12/18. I struggled with the DLR▸ and Overground and also was confused by the Overground being a solid orange on a normal map and two orange lines here.
The "definitive" map for this quiz is - I think - http://content.tfl.gov.uk/standard-tube-map.pdfYep, the one I got wrong was due to my consideration of the physical layout which the diagram doesn't reflect overtaking consideration of a wheelchair symbol. Oops - but then it's only a quiz! Oh, I hadn't realised that some of the line colours on the tube map were different to the combined rail and tube map. http://content.tfl.gov.uk/london-rail-and-tube-services-map.pdfI guess it is to better differentiate all the different rail services. As an all zone travelcard holder this is the map I refer to most because if I am travelling to outside London I can see where zone 6 ends on each National Rail line and buy a ticket starting from the last station in the zone.

The company – part of international transport group Stagecoach – has partnered with South Gloucestershire Bus and Coach Company Ltd to deliver five new routes across the midlands and south west of England. The Bristol based company will operate the new routes as part of the megabus.com network, offering direct links to Heathrow or Gatwick from 13 towns and cities from 1 May 2017.
So if it is not a franchise what is it? Ahh...perhaps I should read rather than skim-read earlier posts. Sorry.

Journey by Journey / South Western services / Easter Disruption
|
on: April 16, 2017, 08:56:51
|
And, while I'm here ... this was today's novelty explanation for disruption:
South West Trains have identified a problem with the information system which matches train crew rosters to the train timetables. This means that some journeys across the South West Trains network may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 20 minutes.
This disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day.
This is still ongoing. Sitting at home yesterday seeing consecutive trains to Guildford being cancelled, had to change my plans for the afternoon. I'm curious as to what went wrong. https://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/disruptions/potential-service-disruption-14-april/Service Disruption Sunday 16th April What's going on? We have identified a problem with the information system that matches train crew rosters to train timetables. This is affecting some of our train services today. Train services running across the whole of our network may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes, or be revised at short notice. We currently expect this situation to continue to affect our network until tomorrow (Monday). We are very sorry for the disruption this is causing to your journey. What are we doing about it? Buses are being used in certain locations to supplement trains, and ensure that all journeys can be completed without difficulty. To identify your best route and travel options this Easter weekend, we recommend that you check your journey details using the ‘National Rail Journey Planner’ www.nationalrail.co.uk . Individual train cancellations can be viewed at www.journeycheck.southwesttrains.co.uk
