I can't but help feel that the experiment will not lead to a long term business opportunity.

That said I would love to be down there to see it.

A magnificent map.  Well done.

I echo that as well.

The original line from the Bristol and Exeter into Weston super Mare appears to be missing.  It ran down what is now Winterstoke Road past he gas works to the original WsM station.  It was replaced with the current loop.

That intrigued me and a google search found this wonderful site that overlays old maps with new

Thank you for that map link.  It is facinating.

The problem then would seem to be getting apps that use OSM rather than Google maps. There's one I've heard of called Komoot but I've not used it, and of course there's rwgps though I haven't found the app (as opposed to the website) particularly useable. And I believe there were plans for a cycle.travel app?

ViewRanger allows you to choose which map you want. Includes the free Google maps, Open Street maps, open cycle maps plus others. You can also pay to use Ordnance Survey maps in the app.

I strongly recommend ViewRanger.  I use it for UK (United Kingdom) walking and walking / light biking when on holiday abroad.
485  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: Plane comes off Bristol Airport runway after landing on: January 20, 2018, 10:58:03
How about Funchal, bit like landing on an aircraft carrier.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristiano_Ronaldo_International_Airport

Funchal may be considered short now, but it was even shorter when we visited in around 1979.  We were on the left of the plane and the cockpit door was open.  It looked as though we were flying straight at the mountain; when we did a 90 left, a hard landing and stopped close to the sea at the other end.  It is the only plane I have been on which had spontaneous clapping when we stopped.

Returning to the UK (United Kingdom) they could only fuel the plane to Lisbon in order to reduce take off weight.

To clarify the legal terminology:

Administration
When a creditor has loaned a company money secured against specific assets then, if the terms of the loan are breached, the creditor can ask the Court to appoint an administrator. The administrator takes over the running of the company from the directors, realises the value of the specified assets and repays the loan.  The administrator then hands the company back to the directors.

In practice administrators are only appointed when the company is already, or nearly, insolvent and administration is followed by insolvency.

Receivership
A process that has been replaced by administration.

Liquidation
When a company is insolvent (it is unable to pay its debts as they fall due) then it will be placed in Compulsory Liquidation and a court appointed liquidator will sell the assets and pay the creditors a proportion of the amount due.

A Voluntary Liquidation is used to close a solvent company at the planned end of its life.

It would appear that Carillion is insolvent and therefore is being liquidated by the Official Receiver, who have appointed PwC as special managers to close down Carillion.
488  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: January 14, 2018, 14:40:37
The main passenger flow on the 09:35 out of Paddington on a Sunday morning will be tourists off to Oxford for the day. Too many for a two-car Turbo. But if you're forcing them to change at Reading there are alternatives in the form of four-car Voyagers.

I wasn't aware that GWR (Great Western Railway) had any Voyagers, or that any Voyager drivers had route knowledge between Paddington and Reading.

As the original says "forcing them to change at Reading", I suspect the original poster was thinking of Oxford passengers catching any HST (High Speed Train) out of Paddington and changing to a Cross Country Voyager at Reading - minimum 4 cars, occasionally 5!

Understood.  Apologies.

Thanks for your hard work.  Last night I assumed that 'more tables than usual needed updating' and not 'lack of staff due to training'.

I would say "my pleasure" but actually last night it was just a task that needed to be done!

......

Yes - I appreciate I've come up with a much more serious answer than you would have anticipated from the light hearted and positive comment ... you've provided me with an excellent hook onto which to hang a link to that update previously hidden within a presentation.

As a retired IT Director I feel your pain on keeping old software running beyond the original design.

On The GDPR front I agree with the comments that, provided you are registered, the coffee shop is fine.

The relevant discussion is towards the bottom of this page:

I cannot comment on the accuracy or otherwise of the statements, but we know there were reported coupling problems on the first day.

Presumably these teething problems will be quickly sorted.

Trips to London for exhibitions etc.  Home to Yatton is 20 minutes, home to Bristol is 35.
It is nice not to be catching the very early train from Temple Meads, even if I was in the front.
I admire all the work you have done on the Transwilts and this coffee shop.

495  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Service 1A09 on: January 09, 2018, 19:25:35
I have seen a comment in the diagrams thread of UK (United Kingdom) Railways that the issue relates to failures in the uncoupling of units.

The diagram for trains running West of Bristol is that they run 2x5 between Paddington and Bristol where they split and a single 5 coach unit runs on to Weston or Taunton.  On the return this links at Bristol to form a 2x5 to Paddington.

Since the automated uncoupling is not working correctly they are being run as 2x5 with a locked out set until Hitachi produce a working system.
