33 out of your 77 so just under half.Quite a few are on the bucket list.

I do not know the figures but I believe the 1.3 million summer journeys will include a very significant number of summer visitors.  It would be interesting to know the number of winter journeys,
My son used to work for a Council and he was always commenting about the cost of non resident bus pass holders.

Is it the Tiverton branch with picture 3 being the Great Western Canal aqueduct?

So, stock that argueably should not have been repurposed in the first place now to be withdrawn with no provision for replacement. This from a railway whose services are already often capacity-constrained at a time when passenger flows are in a state of flux and the industry is struggling both to (at times) meet demand and (at all times) return to a financial surplus.

In the medium term, does this mean chaotic provision of 5 carriage IETs (Intercity Express Train) on Paddington services, short formed Cardiff - Portsmouth services, a greater chance of underprovision of services on the line into Cornwall, or all three? This doesn't feel healthy at all.

Mark

I mentioned above that elsewhere there are reports that the Cardiff-Portsmouth service wil be reduced to 3 carriages.
65  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: End date for Castles - initially a Rumour Mill thread on: November 22, 2022, 18:21:32
I have read elsewhere that the resultant train moves will leave the Cardiff / Portsmouths as permanent 3 car trains.
66  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: Eurostar - a user's experience, November 2022 on: November 15, 2022, 16:51:41
I think that it is customs at St Pancras, rather than border controls. After all, there are duty free shops at Gare de Nord

Interestingly I have had 3 cross channel trips this year (one by car and two by campervan) using ferries and Le Shuttle.  Passports have been carefully examined and stamped but we have seen no customs officers despite the new rules on food stuffs banned by the EU» (European Union - about) and alcohol restrictions in the UK (United Kingdom).
67  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: HS2 - Government proposals, alternative routes and general discussion on: November 13, 2022, 16:54:27
If the government is looking particularly hard at the next 5 years of expenditure than most of this spend for HS2 (The next High Speed line(s)) is committed (or will need to be in order to finish London Birmingham).  The phases to Crewe, Manchester and E Midlands will have fairly low cash requirements in this period.
68  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Aberthaw Power Station and Decarbonisation on: November 05, 2022, 19:24:15
I have looked at the power generation of the 150W solar panels on my camper van.  I only get the nominal output when the sky is clear and the sun is at exactly 90degrees to the panels.  Either of these cause the output to rapidly fall off.  Therefore TonyK's 85% reduction from nominal is due to cloudy skies and non optimal orientation of the panel as the sun moves round.

It would be interesting to compare the output at 12 noon (if the panel points South) on sunny and cloudy days and at different times of day when the horizontal angle will be different.  The vertical angle will also differ between winter and summer.
69  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Watch out! How your smart device can charge you twice on London transport on: October 27, 2022, 18:20:06
If they use the bank account as the identifier for the journeys as requested then what will happen if 2 people have a joint bank account and are travelling together or separately in London?

To solve the problem unambiguously it would be necessary to separately register the cards and devices used by each person
70  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Bristol Airport on: October 26, 2022, 09:42:21
"The railway" clearly have a lot to learn from the airline and airport industries, WRT (with regard to ) to luggage in particular.

What we need is some form of checked luggage facility on trains, preferably involving computers and automated handling systems.

Lunch in London, dinner in Plymouth, luggage at Castle Cary.

Or the other way round.
Passengers would carry / drag their holiday suitcases on to the plane and then force them into racks at each end and, possibly, the middle.
71  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bristol Temple Meads Station redevelopment on: October 20, 2022, 17:49:11
Meantime, I am not sure if the potential for nearby hotel accommodation has increased or decreased following the fire at the Grosvenor Hotel. Bristol City Council says it is committed to redeveloping the site as part of the Temple Quarter rejuvenation, with or without the privately-owned building.

It has been closed for over 20 years so no change.

Truss gone ,Well that took long enough, who's next?..

I am reminded of the early WW2 cartoon of a group of German railway managers lined up and the caption was 'Last across the road becomes station master at Hamm'.  This was under a headline stating 'RAF (Royal Air Force) bombs marshaling yards at Hamm again'.

75  All across the Great Western territory / Looking forward - after Coronavirus to 2045 / Re: Airport Closure - Doncaster / Sheffield / Robin Hood on: September 27, 2022, 18:00:06
I am not surprised that it is closing.  It was converted from a closed RAF (Royal Air Force) base in 2005 and 2 of the 3 airlines using it have stopped, leaving just Tui.  The economics must have always been marginal and the last 3 years will have finished it.

We need fewer airports not more as we reduce the generation of CO2.
