31  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Obstruction on the line between Bath Spa and Westbury - 12th Nov on: November 12, 2008, 09:54:57
"Train services between Bath Spa and Westbury are being disrupted due to an obstruction on the line.", this seemed to happen today (wednesday 12th november). but I had no problems today on my early trains. Now all trains north and south seem to be cancelled on that stretch. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I also go through Bristol TM(resolve) quite often and feel the current bus system is inadequate. It seems like a great idea in my view. Welcome to the forums, too Smiley

Slightly unrelated but the 10:10 Great Malvern service from Oldfield Park was cancelled today. According to the FGW (First Great Western) website the Portsmouth - Cardiff service called additionally there  to make up for the cancellation, but my brother was waiting at the station and he said it went by without stopping.

I've just sent an e-mail regarding trains. I also put in a note about the TransWilts Smiley

I meant to post these earlier, but better late than never! Here are photos of the lovely floral displays at Oldfield Park this year taken with my trusty camera phone. Huge thanks to the great efforts to the team of volunteers who planted, looked after and watered the plants every day. They certainly brightened up the station and made it a really nice place to wait. The two displays on the platform embankments were "OLDFIELD PARK" on one side (platform 2) and a steam train the other side (platform 1), both outlined in stones and floral plants. There was also a line of plants and flowers on the approach ramp to platform 2.

Hope they brighten up your day Smiley

36  Journey by Journey / London to South Wales / Re: Signalling Problems In The Severn Tunnel Area (27/09/2008) on: September 27, 2008, 20:16:37
I was caught up in this...no trains could go through the Severn tunnel, and I'm guessing the London HSTs (High Speed Train) went via Gloucester to Swindon. I got a local Arriva train to Newport and there were replacement buses there to Bristol Parkway, which was fun(!). Seemed to be chaotic at Bristol Parkway, as Cross Country services were hours late too...

Thanks bobby Smiley

Trains from Glos are a bit disappointing,  as I was hoping for a roughly hourly service both ways. But trains the other way are well timed.
38  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Major Incident in Bath on: September 23, 2008, 19:47:24
That's really interesting, the first time I've heard of people being asked to walk from Oldfield park to Bath. Of course it would be no problem for people like me but there's bound to be lazy people around  Grin

My train (1808 from Bath Spa- Great Malvern) raced through Bath Spa without stopping. No sign of the fire but there were plenty of people on the platform.

I'm surprised about what happened in Bath though, gas cannister explosions...
39  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Nailsea & Backwell Station on: September 23, 2008, 19:41:42
I often think what a sad world we live in...so many desperate people around. I hope they get caught.

The card-only idea may work, but then it would be difficult to enforce penalty fares on stations that don't have ticket offices.

I hope the would-be thieves were wearing gloves - not for fingerprint purposes, but have you seen the state of the touch screens on most of these machines ?  Yuk !!
Lol, that's true! Speaking of fingerprints, there are plenty of them on most of the screens...
40  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Oldfield Park station - incidents, awards, timetable changes - merged topic on: September 21, 2008, 10:05:04
Yes, definitely strange...I've never heard of an excursion setting off from Oldfield park before, especially seeing that people were all milling around the top of the station, none of which seemed to be leaving!
41  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Oldfield Park station - incidents, awards, timetable changes - merged topic on: September 20, 2008, 22:03:06
After a day in Bristol showing my bro how to get to Uni from Stapleton Road(!!), when we got back to Oldfield Park at about 8pm, there was a HST (High Speed Train) standing on P1 and crowds of people standing on Brook Road bridge over the station. People were all leaving the HST with crowds walking up the ramp out of the station and hanging around the bridge. The HST was empty. Any idea what was going on? No reports on FGW (First Great Western) website/NR» (Network Rail - home page). Photo below...
42  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Train Fault(s) Causes Problems Between Bristol TM-Bristol Parkway (17/09/2008) on: September 18, 2008, 20:21:06
A string of cancellations and short workings between Bath and Bristol today due to 'a problem with line-side equipment' - my 17:28 Warminster- Great malvern train started at Westbury so I was an hour late getting home to Oldfield park.
43  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: FGW - diagram of the TransWilts on: September 13, 2008, 21:23:57
Not to mention that a simple route map like that was long overdue anyway, but I'm also extremely happy that the TransWilts line is there with Swindon shown as a major station  Grin
44  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bath Spa Station Weekend Closures on: September 13, 2008, 11:23:34
True...it's better that it finishes then than heading into the start of December!

And that's true Timmer, as diversions can have knock-on effects to other trains, maybe it's best the work gets 'out the way' as quick as possible.
45  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: No train ... but a taxi. Which refused to take passenger ... on: September 13, 2008, 09:23:16
Certainly still worth letting FGW (First Great Western) know, as the passengers were in a no-win situation and I think the actions of the taxi driver were frankly disgraceful.
