Well I commend you for your patience, martyjon - I think I would have left before lunchtime, from what you say.

I'll second that!  It's absolutely shameful what's going on.  How many more headlines about never ending rush hour gridlock - and non rush hour congestion - must there be for the powers that be (whoever they are this week) to finally do something about it rather than just scrap one committee and form a new one with exactly the same remit?!

I've said it before that never mind trying to sort out transport needs to support the future needs of the Greater Bristol area's ever growing population, it's way way behind even being able to support the existing one.  With the amount of politics involved in trying to sort out even the slightest improvement, nothing major ever gets done

And now with the chance of the first stage of major rail improvements - which had already gone all the way up to central government and worked thru the GRIP (Guide to Railway Investment Projects) process - being quietly dropped, you lose faith in anything - of worth at least - EVER happening

I despair

Hard to say as there's another planned weekend closure at the minute to finish the filton bank works

P4 was back in use yesterday for terminating trains tho

Another sleepless night tonight...

I know engineering work is obviously necessary, but I can't see the point of still running this as a sleeper service when you're expected to be woken up to get off at Plymouth for replacement road transport, then back on another train at St Austell!

"Engineering work is taking place between Liskeard and Par, closing some lines.

The 23:45 London Paddington to Par "Night Riviera" Sleeper service will terminate at Plymouth. Replacement road transport will run from Plymouth to St Austell for a rail connection onwards to Truro and stations to Penzance.

There will also be a rail connection from Plymouth to Liskeard for road transport from Liskeard to Bodmin Parkway, Lostwithiel and Par.

Surprised that no-one has come forward to confirm or deny this rumour.

Let's hope it is just a rumour after all this time

Tonight's down starts at Reading again and the up terminates at Reading but both due to be away on time.

I really wouldn't fancy having to get out on 03:59 at Reading to get on another train on to London ... and would hope to be able to get to sleep before 00:45 in the other direction.

Same here...  does kind of defeat the object of a 'sleeper'
21  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: November 29, 2018, 14:33:08
The faulty points have taken platforms 2 & 4 out of action

Luckily with the new platform 1 they can still run all westbound thru services using P1, and all eastbound thru services using P3

It's the terminating services (mostly BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains)-WSM but also some peak direct BTH» (Bath Spa - next trains)-BPW) they can't run as they involve a layover in P4 which would then block the thru services
22  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: November 29, 2018, 13:41:00
.....the end of the day to fix a points failure.....must be more serious than just a simple failure.... Roll Eyes

End of which day?

Guessing it must be a more complex fix as still only running trains thru P1 & P3 at BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains), and no BPW-WSM services running again today

Seven new routes planned for Bristol's Metrobus project

"It is part of an 18-year transport strategy run by councils across the greater Bristol area"

No mention of rail improvements & enhancements within this strategy, aside from the part about a route from Bristol Parkway to The Mall, which I thought was already being sorted anyway with the upcoming Gypsy Patch Lane works...

24  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: November 28, 2018, 12:14:45
Aha, that would do it, as that also affects the starting services from P4 crossing onto the down main.  Thankfully we now have P1 so at least thru services can keep running
25  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: November 28, 2018, 10:47:39
BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains) seems to be running all trains thru P1 & P3, so trying to figure out which points have failed to take out both P2 & P4
26  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Great Western Main Line electrification - ongoing discussion on: November 27, 2018, 21:39:28
There is no reason why the Swindon to Oxford service has to call and reverse at Didcot of course - though in many cases it might still make sense to do so.  Avoid Didcot and you would have a potential journey time between Swindon and Oxford of under 30 minutes, as was the case for the occasional Oxford<>Bristol Turbo that used to omit Didcot when that service operated.  My belief that the best way (in terms of chances of it happening, and maximising the potential market) is to route the East-West Rail services between Reading and Milton Keynes/Bedford to start at Bristol.  I've said it before, but that would not only provide through journeys between Swindon and Oxford, but also provide a more long distance regional service eventually running between Bristol and Cambridge/Norwich/Ipswich.  Although E-W Rail is no longer being electrified, initially at least, bi-mode trains now offer potential rolling stock.

Additional advantages of such a service would be providing an appropriate service for reopened stations at places like Corsham, Grove and Wootton Bassett - though you would need to be careful about compromising through journey times with too many intermediate stops.  And of course there is precious little capacity between Didcot and Swindon available.

I, for one, was pretty gutted when the Bristol to Oxford Turbo direct service that used Foxhall Junction and therefore bypassed Didcot ceased, as I used that service quite frequently when it was available.  I did try it a few times after once it returned to the current situation of a Bristol - Didcot train and 'hopefully' timing a decent enough connection, but remember several late nights sat around for ages at Didcot waiting for a return train home.  Was definitely a backward step in my view, and one that should easily be able to be reinstated

So Metrobus have tweeted out an image of a fairly detailed route map for the M1.
Not sure if this is new or not, but it is more detailed than anything I have seen anyway, and I can't help feel even more annoyed considering how close to Temple Meads and Parkway it comes, but is just a bit too far away from either to be useful for them!

Ouch!!!  Still at least the four tracking did help to get things back on track (pun intended!) a lot quicker than it would have done previously
29  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: November 23, 2018, 10:20:40
Don't you just love how the press latch onto things...  BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) news this morning;

"Commuters around the West's rail network faced a double whammy of disruption this morning.

A broken down train between Temple Meads and Parkway blocked lines for several hours leading to rush hour delays.

And a signalling fault between the Bristol station and Weston-super-Mare meant that all tracks were blocked west of the station for some time.

Meanwhile, Network Rail say the completed work around Bristol Parkway has made travel better"

Has made travel better?  Does anyone know which unit failed and if trains were able to run up the other lines now we have four?  If it was one of the four lines and other trains were able to be diverted around it, would have been much more productive to say that thanks to the recent works, whereas the lines would have been completely blocked before we were still able to keep other trains running during this morning's disruption

But that's what you get from the press

The sharper-eyed among you may also have noticed that the running-in boards on P4 use GWR (Great Western Railway)'s new less-legible font...

Yes I noticed that straight away.  Was one of the first things I noticed when they opened the new P1 at BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains) and saw the new signs there, not matching any of the others.  I was actually waiting to see if they'd introduce the same ones at FIT for the new P4, and of course they have!

I don't get it...  unless you're changing all of the platform numbers to match, why just change one?  It may only be a small detail but it sticks out like a sore thumb
