16  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: GWR Advance as an eticket on: January 20, 2023, 17:04:53
I wonder if this is a problem with your credit card?

I just booked and paid for an Advance e-ticket on the GWR (Great Western Railway) app, and it all went through as usual. Certainly not a general problem with Advance e-tickets.
17  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture Overseas / Re: Competing Channel tunnel trains? on: January 03, 2023, 14:28:56
Well there certainly seems to be good demand for the new Continental sleeper services, and our two services in UK (United Kingdom) ( Penzance and Scotland) are generally well filled. I would gladly use a sleeper through the tunnel, much more civilized than having to get  to St Pancras  for the first morning  service at some godawful time !
18  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Sink Hole - Gunnislake branch on: December 13, 2022, 10:59:46
The whole of the Gunnislake is riddled with old mine workings. Speaking strictly and geologically,  they are not sink holes, which is a product of limestone weathering, but can be anything from a major abandoned adit to quite small side shafts. Many were poorly filled, and when they open up they need checking, although only rarely do they cause structural problems. But when they do it's a mess!

Looks like the Up Waiting room at Liskeard.

Thanks for that Graeme, sounds great. I am doing my Interrail in April, looking forwards to it very much. London-Cologne-Vienne-Budapest-Zagreb-Split-Ancona- Bologna- Milan St  Moritz- Zurich- Brussels-London. PLanning has been great fun, although perhaps one of the most challenging travel plans I have done.
22  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Rail unions strike action 2022/2023/2024 on: November 23, 2022, 14:03:49
Well I was planning to get he train form Liskeard to Paddington on 14 December, and because I do need to make this journey, have managed to get a ticket for the National Express Coach . It s not a very appealing alternative.  I have to leave Liskeard at 0755 and dont get in  to London until 1530.( 7.5 hours)  No refreshments, but I do believe they a have a toilet!
23  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Additonal Trains for London/Windsor during mourning period on: September 14, 2022, 13:36:06
No sign of extra trains from Cornwall and certainly none overnight beyond the sleeper.
24  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Night Riviera on: July 05, 2022, 17:34:57
Truely a silver lining!
25  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Coffee and a Bacon Sandwich at Liskeard on: July 04, 2022, 13:56:51
Apologies for being ultra-parochial but today is a great day at Liskeard Station, the station cafe has reopened, now run by the lovely ladies from the Bodmin and Wenford. So now a decent coffee and a good bacon bap can be purchased to tide one over on a journey to Paddington until the slow slow IET (Intercity Express Train) trolley service gets to you.( Often an hour or more, and of course when it does, there is no bacon baps!!)
26  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Campaigns for new and improved services / Re: Mid Cornwall Metro on: June 18, 2022, 12:34:02
Good news. Newquay needs a more regular and faster service. The success of the increased capacity on the Falmouth branch shows what could be achieved.
27  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: The importance of good connections (or through services) on: June 09, 2022, 15:56:29
Yes local complexities and a need for local knowledge of the busses is rife. For another example, if you want to get the bus to Fowey from Par station there is a half hourly service, very good. BUT one bus goes from the west side of the road, and the other goes from the east side, directly opposite! No singnage to  advise or direct the unwitting non-local...
28  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Lostwithiel bridge on: June 08, 2022, 22:07:10
Also there is already level access to both platforms so I don't think the  new footbridge can be seen as fundamental to enabling disabled access.
29  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Lostwithiel bridge on: June 08, 2022, 11:34:07
Looks as if the ill-fated plan for the Lostwithiel footbridge is actually getting somewhere!

£1.8m bridge in the works could stop trespassing on train lines.

30  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Campaigns for new and improved services / Re: Okehampton-Tavistock. Discussion on reopening and potential use as a diversionary route on: May 24, 2022, 19:10:45
The proposed new Tavistock station isn't that far from the town centre.  The Plymouth busses may be frequent but they are slow and not very comfortable, very slow indeed in rush hour, as the Tavistock- Plymouth road is a nightmare!
Some work was done a few years ago on a draft timetable for Plymouth-Bere Alston/Tavistock, as I recall it looked very sensible, a variant off the current Gunnislake timetable.
