196  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: More dangerous overcrowding to the Westcountry on: April 26, 2019, 15:49:14
That is good news about drivers, but the next problem is train managers and buffet trolley staff. Travelled on the 14 April Sunday 0805 Penzance- Paddington the other week,  composed of 2x5 coach IETs (Intercity Express Train). All fine to Plymouth, then no buffet staff. Passengers not well pleased and by Tiverton were getting cross. Train manger in back set advised passengers needing drinks to move forwards to the front set, buy drinks then come back to seats at Taunton. This was done, but no buffet trolley in front set either. Grumpy passengers return and berate Train Manager, who then discovers there are NO STAFF ATALL in the front set, so all passengers and TM(resolve) are moved to front set and back set is closed off as regulations require that no passengers can sit without a staff member being present. SO, not much point running 2x5 car units if there aren't buffet or TM staffing availble!

Cheaper to take the lovely sleeper berths than stay in London. But sitting up overnight? No thanks.
198  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Retracing the abandoned tracks of Cornwall's highest railway on: February 25, 2019, 20:08:47
Loose rail on a quarry incline at Kilmar Tor Quarry. All the track on the substantive railway line was lifted in WW1 and taken to France.
199  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Retracing the abandoned tracks of Cornwall's highest railway on: February 24, 2019, 23:24:26
Not quite accurate I'm afraid , you wont find any rails. The line was laid with individual granite setts to hold the rails rather than traditional transverse wooden sleepers. The traces of the line are quite easy to follow and with a bit of imagination and a good OS (Ordnance Survey) map you can join up the dots to project the planned extension of the line beyond Minions right out to Kilmar Tor and then with guesswork on towards Altarnun.

Rather worrying that the WTT (Working Time-Table) does not show the up Golden Hind..  is it being scrapped? - error or conspiracy to stop any one from Cornwall getting to Paddington before 1100?
