31  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Cornwall Bus Service improvement plan 2021 on: May 11, 2022, 17:10:48
Rail- bus integration in Cornwall is gather pace. The trains in Cornwall now have announcements stating what bus services connect at the next station ( e.g. at Saltash they mention Callington and Launceston by name,  at Redruth the Helston service, and at St Erth "connections to many places"). There is a very good rail bus interchange at St Austell, at Redruth, St Erth and at Penzance and a fairly good connection at Bodmin Parkway and Truro, so things are going in the right direction.

Further complications if you run your journey options through Tickety Split!
33  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Great Western Railway: on-board catering, buffets, Travelling Chef, Pullman - ongoing discussion on: May 02, 2022, 12:32:15
I dont know much about how the S Wales Pullman crews work, but from long years of experience of the Plymouth /Penzance restaurant car service, they only take orders up from Paddington and Reading, have always tried to finish service by Taunton, clear tables by Exeter and have a sit down with all packed up by Taunton. Always Plymouth crews, so thats where they leave. So I cant imagine practice on the Wales services would be much different, hence the early finish.
34  Journey by Journey / Wales local journeys / Re: Fishguard -> Rosslare suspended on: April 07, 2022, 09:17:13
Its only a 15 minute walk from Pembroke Dock station!
35  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture Overseas / Re: SNCF new idea for branch lines on: April 02, 2022, 12:58:34
The rails are often left due to the immense political pressure exerted by French local and regional government on SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais - French National Railways).
36  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture Overseas / Re: SNCF new idea for branch lines on: April 01, 2022, 19:41:46
I thought this was an April Fool but it’s part of an SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais - French National Railways) initiative announced on 22March. So unbelievably perhaps it is true!
37  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: The End of Steam on the Talyllyn on: April 01, 2022, 12:11:09
Had me worried until I saw the date!
38  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture Overseas / SNCF new idea for branch lines on: April 01, 2022, 12:09:41
SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais - French National Railways) are proposing an innovative minibus road rail vehicle for little used branch lines.

39  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture Overseas / Re: Morlaix - Roscoff line on: March 27, 2022, 15:28:24
I am afraid the Roscoff line is in a terrible state and SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais - French National Railways) seem to be able to semi-close lines like this without much come-back . I haven't seen a train on the line for some time and I suspect its the replacement bus that is going tobe the norm for the forseeable future. Having said that the replacement bus is not too bad!
40  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Yeoford - call for platform on Okehampton line on: March 14, 2022, 15:37:51
Being long in the tooth and a regular user of the Okehampton line in the olden days before closure I can say with some certainty that I hardly ever saw anyone get on or off at Yeoford. I would not think a platform there wouldlbe a priority and Crediton is not that far away.
41  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Storms Eunice, Franklin, Gladys from 18/2/2022 on: February 17, 2022, 14:09:05
No sign of storms down south. Just went through DDawlish, sea flat as a pancake
42  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Storms Eunice, Franklin, Gladys from 18/2/2022 on: February 16, 2022, 21:37:38
It is only an amber warning for Friday, they occur fairly frequently so i would not get too worried. Dawlish only gets badly hit by SE and E winds,  relatively sheltered from the SW.
43  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Best way to spilt ticket to York on: February 14, 2022, 15:00:01
I have found Ticketysplit website very good. We travelled from Liskeard to Edinburgh last year and the route via Kings Cross with multiple split tickets was way cheaper than XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) via Birmingham.
44  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Night Riviera to be reduced for eight weeks due to engineering work - Jan 2022 on: January 19, 2022, 22:00:28
I cant give the exact numbers but anecdotaly its the main way for Scillies residents to go up to London .
45  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Night Riviera to be reduced for eight weeks due to engineering work - Jan 2022 on: January 19, 2022, 19:44:25
That make a lot of sense, Plymouth lost out when they stopped detaching one of the sleeper coaches there to allow for a civilised getting up time. The problem would then be maintaining he connection with the Scillonian at Penzance.
