46  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Night Riviera to be reduced for eight weeks due to engineering work - Jan 2022 on: January 18, 2022, 19:31:35
I really find this partial suspension illogical, and as a regular sleeper user very very annoying. It would not be a big deal to run a bit earlier, I doubt that may  Cornish sleeper passengers would object to a slightly earlier departure,  or indeed for the down service a slightly later arrival.
47  Journey by Journey / Heart of Wessex / Re: Request stops - new technology to stop just in case slow downs. on: December 28, 2021, 21:50:44
I can see the merit of changes suggested on some lines, but as far as the Cornish branchlines  are concerned, the current "stick out your hand" system works perfectly well. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Sorry to see the Pullman Restaurant is cut to just one service each way on PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains)-PNZ.

West Devon Council Offices at Tavistock! No one will shed a tear if that gets bulldozed.

True, but Deuche Bahn  website cuts through a great deal of transnational travel difficulties with trough booking at a discount prices.
52  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: High fares - a deterrent to higher passenger numbers on: November 10, 2021, 11:03:39
Or as little as £26.82 return for four (two child fares), with approximately hourly departures, on Megabus.

I went on National Express from Plymouth to London once. Never again, absolute agony.Took for ever.
53  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: IETs into passenger service from 16 Oct 2017 and subsequent performance issues on: November 08, 2021, 13:37:45
Interested that you liked the IET (Intercity Express Train) seat! I can only assume you are not sitting on it for the five hour journey from Paddington to Cornwall. Fine for the first couple of hours then the back pain kicks in.They really are unsuitable for long journeys.
54  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: High fares - a deterrent to higher passenger numbers on: November 08, 2021, 13:33:19
It might be worth learning from SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais - French National Railways), they are slashing off peak ticket prices, and have a simple online fare offer that just gives you an advance or  a walk- up price. Very high fares for peak  TGV (Train a Grande Vitesse) trains, lower for off peak, and strong subsidies from regional government for local trains. Its not rocket science!
55  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Cornwall Bus Service improvement plan 2021 on: October 31, 2021, 19:23:25
Ir is very encouraging to see this detailed approach to making bus services better. There is mention of rail-bus integration but I am not sure how much of a priority that is going to be.

No 1 is Taunton, just east of the station
57  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Loss of refreshment facilities at stations on: October 12, 2021, 23:21:00
Liskeard struggled on part way through covid but has now closed down- a pity as they did a good trade. At least you could get a  great bacon sandwich and coffee before getting on a London train with near  non existant trolley service ( AND NO BACON ROLLS!!!)
58  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Okehampton on: October 12, 2021, 23:15:43
I am looking forward to being on that first train! I was on the last train in 1972 before closure, so there is a nice symmetry  for me.
59  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: GWR IET refreshment trolley on: October 11, 2021, 10:27:56
Some TOCs (Train Operating Company) even manage to have sandwiches, bacon rolls and an app to order a delivery to be made to your seat.
60  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: GWR IET refreshment trolley on: October 10, 2021, 22:11:56
The trolley service is getting worse and worse. On my last journey from Paddington, no trolley appeared for an hour and a half, and that was the only showing on a four hour journey. On my last three journeys from Liskeard to Exeter, I have not seen a trolley once, and thats on an hour and a half journey. Basically there is no way of banking on getting any refreshment on an IET (Intercity Express Train) in my experience. The "Service" is an utter disgrace.
