61  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: A home for Great British Railways on: October 08, 2021, 13:12:12
I think they should locate to somewhere that demonstrates the realities of present day long distance travel, somwhere with  travel on uncomfortable seats, awful trolley service and painfully slow stretches of track and the possibillity of winter storm damage. How about Plymouth?
62  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Named Trains on: September 23, 2021, 18:50:32
Exactly, when did all the others get scrapped?
63  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Named Trains on: September 22, 2021, 17:38:52
Pardon me if I have missed something that happened a while ago, but looking in detail and current timetables I noticed that all the named trains ( Cornish Riviera, Golden Hind, etc) with the exception of the Night Riviera seem to have vanished. When did this happen?
64  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: St Budeaux to stations to become 'major interchange' hub on: September 15, 2021, 14:23:28
I am not sure that St Budeaux would provide much advantage over Plymouth main station as most bus routes go via the City  Centre and not much from St Budeaux.
65  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Night Riviera on: September 14, 2021, 10:50:58
I suspect most sleeper passengers will be glad of the longer lie-in! I certainly would.
66  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Big train, small stationer on: September 14, 2021, 10:49:12
I think IETs (Intercity Express Train) have stopped at these local stations before, as they are sometimes used on Cornwall stopping services.

Its only for 6 days
68  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / Re: Mask wearing on and after 19th July - your personal choice on: July 06, 2021, 11:25:28
I wont be wearing a mask. A double jabbed oldie  like me has little to fear, and incidentally the risk of  disease for an unjabbed 18 year is very low.

Don't let Mebyon Kernow hear that!
70  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / Re: Mask wearing at stations - what have YOU noticed as you travel? on: June 28, 2021, 12:06:10
You are entitled to remove your mask to eat or drink even in a "masked" area.
71  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Great Western Railway: on-board catering, buffets, Travelling Chef, Pullman - ongoing discussion on: June 27, 2021, 11:58:12
I can live without a Pullman Breakfast but not without bacon rolls. LNER» (London North Eastern Railway - about) and West Coast can provide them, and deliver to your seat in standard class so why not GWR (Great Western Railway)??
72  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Night Riviera on: June 25, 2021, 16:04:56
Yes the Penzance showers are available, bookings done by the on-board crew at Paddington.
73  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: More dangerous overcrowding to the Westcountry on: June 25, 2021, 16:02:44
I joined this train at Plymouth. It wasn't busy.
74  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Night Riviera on: June 24, 2021, 13:29:16
Just had my second trip on the sleeper this year PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains)-PNZ and can report things are getting back towards normal. The Lounge is open at Paddington ( and at Truro and Penzance I believe), and passenger numbers are certainly up on my earlier trip in May when take up seemed low. Best of all the bacon rolls are back ! Given that the Scillonian appears to be getting good trade, I expect the sleeper will be feeding that as well.

Pity the photo is of the Calstock viaduct which is not on the Tavi-Okehampton route!
