All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Great Western Main Line electrification - ongoing discussion

This does not sound to be very safe to me, I feel a lot safer on a train if a driver can see an actual signal and a route indicator.
In-cab signalling is a proven technology. Its in use on High Speed 1 in the UK▸ , on lines across Europe, China and Japan use it on their high speed lines, and it is being introduced in many other countries on their 'classic' lines. .....and the London Underground Victoria Line has had such a system since 1968..... Did not think that it had already been used. For arguments sake. For example, if it was already installed between Birmingham New Street and Westerleigh Junction, how would a driver know which route he is given at signal G50 at Barnwood Junction. At the moment he has a four Aspect signal with a Pos 4,5,6 Junction Indicator. No indicator is down avoiding, pos 4 is up avoiding + avoiding loop via extra stencil, pos 5 down loop, pos 6 down main into Gloucester. Then another signal with the same indications G52, but with routes to the platforms. So what type of screen or device would he have for the routes described and does he have some sort of marker board where the block section is.

Apparently, this report is based on the recent All Parliamentary Rail Group meeting last week in the Copmmons. Does Hansard record these Group meetings?
Could I please ask members if they would check spelling of messages, before they hit the post button, I have seen many mistakes in this forum over the past few weeks, I try to make my posts as accurate as possible. I usually post a message and re edit, if I see a mistake. Not known yet if he does.

Because we are coming out of Europe now it seems, Are Network Rail going to have to abandon E.R.T.M.S. Also confused as to what it is, but sounds ever so expensive.
European Rail Traffic Management System Put simply in cab signaling system with direct contact with the driver ,rather than having signal equipment at the lineside as we have at the moment. This does not sound to be very safe to me, I feel a lot safer on a train if a driver can see an actual signal and a route indicator.

Slightly off-topic, but now that Filton Bank four tracking is done, will the extra trains from Bristol TM‡ - Bristol PW▸ to Paddington be starting soon, in May?, or will we have to wait for other work to be done first?
Not yet, I think the hope would be at the end of this year, but we'll have to wait and see. Any going towards Weston?

I don't agree wth him....the third line will happen if it doesn't go through, not if it does (because they'll feel cheated)
BUT should non-transport Politics be discussed on this MAIN board, really?
For one I absolutely do not want to see politics creeping onto this website. There are plenty of other places to discuss that sort of rubbish. It has gone off the rails, What's needed is some more Filton banks to get everybody going. Time for graham to do some telling off.

This site seems to be running slow tonight, had to press a button, three times to get it to post a message.
Yours was a solitary report, no obvious evidence of any problems in the log files, none of my automated tripwires fired off any emails to me. Heavy server loading overnight (but then there's an extra maintenance scripts on a Sunday night / Monday morning). I suspect an issue more at your end / your internet connection that our server in this case, but thanks for the report. Thanks graham, must be this crap internet system then, This is a brand new estate, yet the broadband speed is 2mb, after I did a check, I am paying sky for a 20mb connection, Anyway not to grumble, getting out of this dump soon, It is bad, building a new estate and not putting in virgin media, what on earth. Just ordered sky to move phone and broadband, got fibre for 2 pounds extra. I hope this will sort out some problems. New for 2019.

People are unwilling to pay tax in the sense that it's incredibly rare for them to vote for higher taxes in return for better services.
Please try to understand, it's tax revenue that matters, higher tax rates do not necessarily lead to the same thing -as I pointed out, Corporation tax revenue has increased hugely despite rates being lower. Ultimately its how the Government decides to spend this revenue that determines how and which services are "better". We've got two separate "topics" in one thread here. One about how much revenue can be raised, another about how happy people are to pay tax. Must be a combined one?.
