451  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Signalling at Worcestershire Parkway on: April 26, 2020, 18:36:16
The land for the up platform at Pershore is still available but there is currently no access as the land behind the platform was sold off.
The current plan is to add a new car park on the up side at the east end of the station. A footbridge is available to link the car park but it is steps only no ramps or lifts.
Disabled parking would be on the existing small car park adjacent to the existing platform on the down side.

The problem with the task force proposal to double to just west of pershore is that there would then be a requirment to provide another footbridge with ramps or lifts.
Much cheaper to just keep the existing single platform and double to just east of the station.
No need for a passing loop so not realy a Penryn solution sorry S+TE

Just for the record the location used was City road goods station Bradford. A former GNR line that closed in 1972.
It was a goods only branch off the line from St Dunstans on the current line from Leeds to Bradford Interchange that went to Keighley and Halifax.
Queensbury tunnel on the Halifax part of the line has also recently been in the news due to the Highway authoritys wanting to fill the tunnel in.

And then they all adjourned to the city hotel for a pint of Tetleys.

Many years ago I was walking alongside the buffer stops on the platform at Kidderminster when the driver of WD 2-10-0 Gordon forgot to move the reverser before opening the regulator while running round.

The central column of lights indicated that the final drive was engaged correctly

These where added after an early incident when one power car in a set did not reverse and tried to fight against the rest of the train. This resulted in overheating and a fire fortunately the car was empty at the time.

There are certainly some strange outcomes from the bus timetable changes. While out for a walk yesterday I saw a Stagecoach X18 arrive in Pershore.
This is the Stratford on Avon to Evesham service and it includes 2 journeys extended to Pershore on a Sunday only.
Needless to say it was empty both ways.

Travelling from Worcester to Leeds for Christmas. I think it was 1964 I was 7.
Finding that the Diesel had been replaced by a Black 5 due to a faulty Steam heat boiler.
Banked up the Lickey. Stopping at a building site called Birmingham new street and diverted to Bradford Exchange due to the rebuilding of Leeds.
Later my Mother wrote to BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) children's hour and got a recording of the Lickey banker played for me.
All gone now including Bradford exchange.

Just been for a walk and called in at Pershore station.

As can be seen from the attched photo there has not been any more progress with the TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) since the 26th February when the base was cast.

The car park was almost empty only 2 cars normally at 10am on a Saturday I would expect at least 15.

I did not see any trains as the next one was not due until 10:28 so no Idea of loadings.

I have heard that the Worcestershire Parkway affect works both ways.
Local young people are now able to get to Birmingham from Pershore for 9am without having to leave Pershore at 6am.
But People who used to rely on lifts to Pershore are now driving themselves to parkway. Car parking at Pershore is normally full by 6.15am.

As for the usage figures they are very unreliable from a point of view of numbers as revenue collection on trains to Worcester is very poor. However this is unlikley to represent much financial loss due to the low fares involved compared to the much better revenue collection towards London.

A Ticket machine is being installed at Pershore it must be the last thing on the list of commitments for the current franchise. The groundwork was being done the last time I used the station a couple of weeks ago.

Covid-19 Update

The safety and well-being of our volunteers, staff and customers is of the utmost importance and we are monitoring the situation daily and following all Government guidelines.

Due to the changing situation regarding COVID-19 and Government advice surrounding gatherings, it is with regret we feel it is both necessary and sensible to postpone our train services for the rest of this month. Customers who have purchased tickets or experience packages for March 21, 22, 28 or 29 are being contacted individually by phone today.

An announcement regarding our train services, experience packages and special events in April will be made in the next couple of days.

This is going to be a challenging time for all heritage railways as we rely on footfall to keep us running. Your understanding, patience and co-operation is appreciated and we thank you all in advance for your ongoing support.

All at #TeamSVR hope you and your families stay well during this difficult time and we look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Best wishes,
Helen Smith
General Manager

One of them will be the Footbridge originaly intended for Reading west. This was not installed for reasons unknown to me but someone on the forum may be able to answer.
It is now intended to use the footbridge at Pershore subject to ORR» (Office of Rail and Road formerly Office of Rail Regulation - about) approval.
This will allow access to the new car park on the north side of the line.
Approval is needed because the bridge does not include disabled access. It is intended to use the existing car park on the same side as the platform as a disabled car park.
463  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Worcestershire Parkway Station project - ongoing discussion on: March 16, 2020, 15:45:12
The Attached snapshot from the OS (Ordnance Survey) map shows that the extra bridge span was for a farm track that was also a Public Bridleway. This ran to a foot crossing further south.
Looking at the Current Worcestershire county council footpath mapping https://gis.worcestershire.gov.uk/website/countryside/ the Bridleway and foot crossing have now been closed.
