All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Freedom Travelpass price rise

There are three price change points within each year ...the Jan1 date we all know, mid-may and mid-september.
Regulated fare rises happen on Jan1, Tocs can use either of the other two to raise unregulated fares & other associated costs (which can change st any of the three, in fact, but often don't)
Interesting. I didn't realise they still changed them at other times of the year apart from January.

Abbey Wood may be the tricky one. There were certainly four tracks to Filton when I first moved to Bristol in the late 70s. Of course, Abbey Wood station wasn't there then, and IIRC▸ , the tracks diverged at the old Filton station, with two heading for Wales, and two for Parkway. Now, with the three platforms at Abbey Wood, it may still be possible to put a fourth line to the very west, without a platform, but whether the benefit will outweigh the cost is another matter. With four stations between BTM▸ and Abbey Wood, however, it will still be viable to four-track to Horfield
Why could they not put a fourth line to the east, between platform 1 and the footpath/cyclepath? I would have thought the space was there, even if it needed a lot of groundwork and would require a footbridge from platform 1 to the MOD exit.

Temple Meads is already a long way from the City Centre. Why would you want to move it any further away? You would want to move the station slightly to cut out all the time wasted on trains changing ends at Temple Meads as they come in from the north and go out towards the east (and vice versa). Cabot Circus is virtually equi-distant from Temple Meads, Dr Day's Junction, and Lawrence Hill. The Colston Hall is only around 600 yards further from Dr Day's Junction than it is from Temple Meads. And those that didn't want to walk could look for a closer station on the Bristol Metro services. Yes there are plenty of bay platforms, and the new London services can use those that will be restored in the old train shed, but the Bristol Metro proposals call for more through platforms.
Building a new station near Dr Day's Junction should be able to provide the extra through platforms.

It is certainly slower to get from platform 2 to the pavement, now that the ramp is blocked off and we have to troop down the new steps at the speed of the slowest.
Really? The new system is much quicker for the vast majority of people, not least because they ahve doubled the staircase capavity and the numebr of exit ticket gates which removes too previous bottlenecks. The ramp was only quicker if you were one of teh few people parked there. The increased number of exit gates means that once you actually get down the stairs there is less of a bottleneck at the bottom. The new staircase being through a narrow doorway and not hugely wide itself, coupled with the old staircase now being labelled as no exit, means there is not much more staircase capacity for exiting. Even if you are quick off the train and first onto the stairs, it is still not as quick to reach the pavement as it was down the ramp. This extra minute (or less) makes the difference between catching the bus about to leave the bus station or missing it. In my experience, under 5% of those using the ramp at the times I arrived back in Bath were parked there.

Are we to surmise that the BBC» , the Bath Chronicle, and First Great Western have all never noticed that Bath Spa station already has three entrances/exits, including step-free access to both platforms?
Welcome mfpa. If I understand your point correctly, I think the commments only relate to the improvement to the lift due to the fact that AFAIK▸ the London platform will eventually lose it's step free access. Aside from the direct access to platform 2 being downgraded from a ramp to a lift, my understanding is that there will still be three entrances/exits after the revamp - the same number as now. The OP▸ 's quotes from the BBC and the Chronicle both feature FGW▸ appearing to claim that the revamp would increase the number of entrances (from one to three), and neither the Beeb nor the Chronic challenge this. From the BBC:Bath Spa railway station revamp is under way
First Great Western said the revamp would see extra entrances added and access to the platforms improved. From the Bath Chronicle:New-look station will be completed by next summer
[FGW Spokesman] said the fact that there was only a single entrance and exit to the station meant it got very busy at peak times.
"We'll open up two additional entrances ^ one at the back of the station and one that takes the place of the former Upper Crust shop."
