I agree. She should have tried Wokingham. Don't have a photo to hand but a mini roundabout one side and a t-junction the other!

What sort of "directional signs" are they planning?  No right turn?  I'm struggling to see what more you can do to indicate the presence of a double track railway.

Some interesting anomalies in the Schedule. It seems you can buy advance tickets or reservations later in the day at Taunton, Exeter St David's, Plymouth and Swindon than you can at Bristol Temple Meads.

I have certainly been told in the past that I could not buy advance tickets after 18:00 even though I didn't want tickets for the next day but further ahead.

It isn't just the route allowed by a ticket which can make a difference. Thanks to the patient advice of some on this forum I have saved money by using a combination of split tickets which have different time restrictions than a through ticket on the same train.

Although Reading West station is still closed the line re-opened very quickly.

I have a lasting monument to the problems with call centres from the days before internet banking.  After paying a VAT (Value Added Tax) bill my statement showed a payment made to "Customers and Exercise"   Huh

Portsmouth Harbour {PMH}: The Lady Hamilton.

Small pub/bed and breakfast. Excellent value and the roast dinners (served every day) are fantastic.

Can vouch for that - stayed there in 2011, although not - as far as I know - at the same time as BNM!

{PGN} Paignton

Stayed at the The Ashleigh Guest House in 2010.  It is between the railway station and the seafront and overlooks the Paignton & Dartmouth steam railway.  Bright and clean with a very attentive host - who even remembered my name throughout my stay.  Excellent variety at breakfast, mini fridge in the room, good choice of channels on room tv and a decent lounge if you don't want to sit in your room.

Very reasonably priced, especially out of season.

Noticed a sign next to the Reading gateline this morning which said that filming was in progress for a new Channel 5 documentary on Great Western Trains. Also gave advice on what to do if you didn't want to appear in it!

You beat me to it!

Wouldn't be the yellow peril Network Rail HST (High Speed Train) Measurement train that I saw in the yard at Exeter this morning would it?

the Pie Shop.

Are you referring to Sweeney & Todds in Castle Street?  Excellent tucker there.  Meanwhile the Hobgoblin is now known as the Alehouse.
