It wasn’t that long ago there was a through service from Basingstoke to East Anglia.

Apart from anything else there are daily struggles to find enough IETs▸ (Intercity Express Train) to run the service west of Paddington, we don't want to start losing them to places like Abbey Wood or Shenfield.

I was aware GWR▸ (Great Western Railway) was looking to increase the route knowledge of staff so more could cover TW services.  I assume in this case an Exeter guard has the knowledge primarily for the occasions when West of England services are diverted via Melksham.

There was a GWR▸ (Great Western Railway) service to Great Malvern about 25 minutes later - giving an arrival in Foregate Street at 10:16.  A delay replay of 29 minutes.
