1  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Stopping at Stations in Cornwall on: October 31, 2011, 18:15:50
If you compare Lostwithiel with St Germans and Saltash. St Germans and Saltash both have an active rail users group campaigning for better services. I do not know of an active rail users group for Lostwithiel. The service at Lostwithiel would probably be better if more journeys were recorded from the station.  The journey time to Par and St Austell makes it difficult to sell tickets for every passenger within this time.

The line has now reopened but residual delays are expected until 1000.

On the preventing fraud issue, my suggestion would be to require the passenger to validate their own tickets in a date-stamping machine on the platform as in much of Europe.  You would need to install the machines but as they work unattended they would be cheaper than ticket barriers.

I agree the installation of ticket validation machines would help in preventing fraud. It would also allow carnet tickets to be validated and could allows companies to buy tickets in bulk for common journeys such as London Paddington to Reading.
4  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Train not stopping at Bodmin Parkway on: June 09, 2011, 16:34:50
Thanks for the prompt answers, so on the same departure from Penzance for two consecutive weeks, identical problems with the train.
5  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Train not stopping at Bodmin Parkway on: June 09, 2011, 13:36:07
Does anyone know what the reason was for the 0806 not stopping at Bodmin Parkway this morning (09-06-11)?
6  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Sunday services - Par - Newquay Winter 2011 on: May 20, 2011, 15:12:54
According to the thisiscornwall website, there will be sunday services on the Par - Newquay line.

The article is sketchy on details, has anyone else got further details?

Before the phone system was changed I was using the Ringgo system three or four times a week in Cornish fgw car parks and was not charged a convenience charge. I am going to have to agree to disagree with your statement. On the Ringgo website there is a case study about first great western car parks and they state that there was no convenience charge.

I would be interested to hear from other users of the Ringgo system before it was changed and whether there was a convenience charge.

Ringgo did not have a convenience charge in fgw car parks. The convenience charge of 20p was dropped about three years ago. Other car parks that use Ringgo such as Cornwall council have a convenience charge it is down to the operator of the car park.
Well whenever I parked at Hayes and Harlington I was charged a convenience fee of 20p..so it certainly wasn't dropped 3 years ago, either that or RingGo charged it anyway.

The link above is the news article on the first great western website which states the convenience charge is dropped.

Regarding the additional 10p charge, according to their website, if you have an SMS reminder of the parking session 10p is added to the cost of the parking. Is this possibly the reason for the charges being 10p higher than expected?
12  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Car parking with Ringgo / APCOA Connect on: April 30, 2011, 10:28:09
Has anyone heard about when the geographic number will be up and running? As stated on the 11th March it would be approximately 4 weeks.
13  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Part time season tickets: Devon and Cornwall on: April 19, 2011, 14:19:39
I have seen a leaflet on the train stating that from March of this year that part time season tickets were available in cornwall, which allow travel on three of the weekdays and the weekend. Has anyone got any more information about these tickets? I couldn't find anything on the FGW (First Great Western) website.

Mod's feel free to move this topic if it is more relevant in Fare's Fare.

Does it really matter who gets the franchise if the Department for Transport micromanage the franchise like at the start of the First Greater Western franchise.
