Yes that correct. Due to the narrow platform as a result of the construction works it has been decided that HST (High Speed Train)'s will stop further down the platform.

The only offer I can make is to suggest that they buy a Network card and purchase a peak hour single out and a Network single back if they can avoid the very peak hour evening return trains on which Network cards are not valid but for some this is also not viable.

AFAIK (as far as I know) there are no restrictions on using Network Cards in the evening peak.  So for example an Anytime Day Single with network card would be valid on all trains in the evening peak.

...as is the normal West unit practice.

Though sadly the same can't be said for LTV (London [and] Thames Valley) services that have a Guard.  Although rare, that means that if a 3-car Turbo finds its way on an Up Cotswold Line service booked to call at Shipton (or Combe/Finstock for that matter), then it can't stop there.

Thats because turbos dont have the local door option.  Its either all doors open or none.

St Georges level crossing.  Vehicle (think it was a van ) knocked off one of the barriers.  The crossing was one of the type with just a single barrier covering the whole road.
23  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: ATOC in discussions over Split Ticketing on: October 03, 2011, 21:46:04
One of the main reasons for split ticketing is that some fares are regulated and some are not.  If you abolished  regulated fares TOC (Train Operating Company)'s could then adjust the fares so splitting the tickets would not save you ant money.
24  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: No off peak fares between FGW-land and west of Cardiff on: September 24, 2011, 06:50:51
I believe this is to do with the fares simplification a few years ago when the Anytime / Off-Peak replaced the open / Saver ticket types.  Historically many saver tickets were actually valid anytime - such as the Salisbury to Bridgend.  So for those savers valid at anytime they were renamed anytime.  Saver tickets which had a restriction on them as to time of travel were renamed off peak.
25  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: St Ives Branch numbers on: September 22, 2011, 19:29:47
I should imagine the unit is going St Erth to St ives.  Then straight back to Lelant Saltings and back to St ives.  Then St ives to St Erth and repeat.
26  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: Magical train "cancellation" today on: September 22, 2011, 13:30:31
This train did run but it did not stop at maidenhead due to late running.  So from a passenger at Maidenhead's point of view it was cancelled.
27  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Season ticket discounts on: September 18, 2011, 10:11:23
I believe at the moment FGW (First Great Western) are giving discount on some routes because performance is below what it should be.  What I wanted to ask is if you have a monthly and upgare to an annual would you be able to get 5% off the price of an annual ?  Or is it only like with like ie renew a monthly gives the 5% discount ?
28  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Debit cards and train tickets ........ What is going on? on: September 12, 2011, 21:41:45
I've read on another forum that Avantix (Ticket Issuing System used on board trains) Mobile should accept the same methods of payments as accepted at ticket offices. This is apparently laid down in ATOC» (Association of Train Operating Companies See - here)'s TIS(resolve) Supplier & Specification Accreditation process.

That's just one post on another forum with no quoted source though.....

Clearly incorrect as Tickets offices can take electron cards and cannot be used on train

I often wondered why it is necessary to paint the wooden boards for the hording.  Apart from looking nice it seems an unnecessary expense.  Unless someone can enlighten me  Smiley

* if a train goes 6 inches past a red light it will be terminated at the next station and the driver sent for retraining
