1246  Journey by Journey / Cross Country services / Re: XC Calling at Reading West on: September 23, 2011, 22:27:47
That is what it means due to Engineering work preventing them using Reading General Station.   It is nothing new at all.
1247  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: St Ives Branch numbers on: September 22, 2011, 22:15:34
They suspended Works Exams or various other tasks such as mods during the High Summer
1248  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: Magical train "cancellation" today on: September 22, 2011, 22:13:26
This train did run but it did not stop at maidenhead due to late running.  So from a passenger at Maidenhead's point of view it was cancelled.
Just as well that I ignored the message to say it was reinstated then. Mind you I was on the 07.03 when the text arrived.
Now at Paddington trying to find a train home as they're all cancelled or delayed.  No mention why. Grrr.
Lack of information again.   I thought special attention was to be given to this following severe problems last Winter
1249  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: September 22, 2011, 22:11:05
I have now read that 150280 will not be available to work for some weeks as all the Norwich dricers have got to be retrained on the traction.      As this is really off Board perhaps we should now close the topic as queries have been resolved.
1250  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: Magical train "cancellation" today on: September 22, 2011, 18:40:59
This sort of information can sometimes be misleading.   Agreed that the train was cancelled so far as Maidenhead was concerned.      On occasions trains to and returning from Cardiff terminate short and I recall one occasion when a Cardiff to Portsmouth I was intending to travel  was dispayed on the CIS (Customer Information System) and announced as Cancelled.   However, I thought I would travel to Newport and wait there instead, but on arrival there found the train waiting, turning round there due to incoming late running.    The automated systems fall down in such circumstances and fail to display real time information.   Fortunattely when this does occor, a live voice informs intending passengers and the XX25 FGW (First Great Western) departure to Paddington is held until the Portsmouth departure time of XX30 to convey them to Newport.    If one has to rely on the Automated systems only, passengers can be let down because the facility is not there to inform people that their train is starting frm Newport.
1251  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / St Ives Branch numbers on: September 22, 2011, 17:42:22
I have just read on the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) Travel news that additional services being provided between St. Ives and Lelant Sdgs due to volume of passengers.   Additional trains could not be pathed run because of the Single Line and would require additional crews whci would be hard to come by.    Does it mean that there is a strengthening Unit out ?
1252  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: September 22, 2011, 17:36:55
NXEA (National Express East Anglia) do not drive 150s any more.   More like Northern who already have 150282 on loan from ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company)))
1253  Journey by Journey / Wales local journeys / Re: Cardiff Bay Branch on: September 21, 2011, 20:39:04
They like to do this now and again and give it a run.    The recurring gear box problems stem from the fact it is going and backwards and forwards  from Cardiff Queen St to Cardiff Bay 4 times an hour for 16/17 hours a day and with the frequent changing without allowing it to settle down thus causing the problems.    This Route Learning serves to give it a run without changing gear almost incessantly.

I am sure that there are so many fares to deliberately confuse people and con them into paying more.    Just go back to First Class and Srandard Class  retuirns and same price at booking office or on line in Advance or turning up as a"walk on"
1255  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Truro station AM 19:09:11 on: September 19, 2011, 22:09:29
It has been suggested that the Falmouth could come into Platform 2 but is that possible ?  I know alterations were carried out to the infrastructure on the Falmouth Branch but Platform 2 would have to be bi-directional but I am not sure if this is the case or not.
1256  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: September 19, 2011, 20:35:39
It was Railtrack Southern at the time who were apprehensive of them.    Ther also banned them on their patch altogether because they were afraid of them being too light weight to operate Track Circuits and not show up in Signal boxes.   Thar is why they are not allowed beyond Warminster for example.    Other TOCs (Train Operating Company) were not so apprehensive.     Special dispensation was obtained for them to go to Eastleigh
Apologies.   I shpuld have said Railtrack Zones not TOCs
1257  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: September 19, 2011, 19:46:30
To Paddington.    How I am be so certain as the train (21 25 ex Cardiff) replaced an FGW (First Great Western) train to Paddington which had been withdrawn.Could not have gone to Waterloo as Pacers are prohibited from 3rd Rail
1258  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Severn Beach Sunday Services 18/09/11 to 23/10/11 on: September 19, 2011, 15:59:25
The Severn Beach line is shewn as Timetable alterations but not Bristol to Worcester (Sundays usual destination)
1259  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Re: Engineering Work Bristol Parkway to Bristol Temple Meads Sunday 18 September on: September 19, 2011, 15:56:59
Running Cardiff - Bristol with a unit would hardly be a good use of resources.

Unless you had a better plan for what these extra units the Wales side of the blockade could do? Obviously taking into account what the drivers and guards will sign in terms of route knowledge.
I am thinkimg of sufficient capacity to carry passengers.  A train to run between Cardiff and Bristol Parkway in lieu of the
Portsmouths.   There should be no problem with route know;edge.
