1261  Journey by Journey / Wales local journeys / Re: Cardiff Bay Branch on: September 18, 2011, 20:45:19
Probably just coincidence that you have not seen 153320.    It is no different to the others.
1262  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Severn Beach Sunday Services 18/09/11 to 23/10/11 on: September 18, 2011, 20:35:37
There are other TOCs (Train Operating Company) which publish such alterations which vary from the norm even if published in the Timetable.   An instance on BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) Travel today in respect of XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) operating replacement buses between Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads.
1263  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Severn Beach Sunday Services 18/09/11 to 23/10/11 on: September 18, 2011, 19:43:32
Somebody has posted this topic on another Forum and accuses FGW (First Great Western) of being too lazy to post the alterations on their Website.    Neither are they posted on BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) Rail Travel News (430).   The line is actually closed between Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads with rail replacement buses.   (I have posted another thread on a different matter relating to this occupation on the Cardiff to Portsmouth Board
These are not Timetable Alterations as such but are part of the Published Timetable covering a dated period from September 18th to October 23rd.   This indicates there is no need for FGW to publish as alterations
1264  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: September 18, 2011, 19:00:48
I would prefer it to be definite information rather than a quote on WNXX (Stored Unserviceable, Mainline Locos HQ All Classes) Forum but it appears that 150202 and 150214 are being prepared at Tyseley for transfer to FGW (First Great Western).    They are being reformed after being split to form middle cars in 150/0s to turn them into 3 Car Units and with through access between each coach.   I have read of a suggestion that the Driving Controls had been removed from the cabs as being redundant at that time so a process of re-fitting will have to be carried out.
I am aware that the ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company))) daily hires have finished but can anybody confirm if the SWT (South West Trains) 158 is still used on the afternoon Brighton diagram.     If still in use on FGW, my hunch is that it will remain until conditions are right for the 2 Car 158s to be formed into 3 Car Sets and provide 3 Cars on the Brighton.
1265  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Engineering Work Bristol Parkway to Bristol Temple Meads Sunday 18 September on: September 18, 2011, 16:56:29
I notice that FGW (First Great Western) have again taken the easy way out in regard to passengers who would normally be travelling on the Cardiff to Portsmouth route.    It would appear that because there are existing services by which they could travel that is good enough.    The planned means of travelling is by South Wales to Paddington services to Bristol Parkway thence by bus to Bristol temple Meads to connect with onward train to Portsmouth Hbr/Brighton.
There seems to be no consideration made about accomodating passengers in what is in effect squeezing  passengers for 2 trains into 1.  Many of these services are already hevily loaded.     I recall Engineering Work at Newport during the Xmas/NewYear 2009/2011 period when passengers were transported to Newport by bus and advised to connect into forward services to Cardiff where 1 FGW instead of 4 an hour were operating.   Needless trains were running full and standing.
Just going off FGW for a moment, I recall when Central Trains operated the Cardiff to Nottingham services when the route was closed on a Saturday north of Gloucester and passengers who had travelled by bus to Gloucester wre advised to catch ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company))) sercices beyond to South Wales because there was no Central Unit or Traincrew on the Gloucester side of the occupation .     Passengers also joined their trains at Lydney and Chepstow for example to travel to South Wales.    This occurred one Saturday when there was a Rugby International in  Cardiff.    Now, XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) do cover these services between Gloucester and Cardiff in similar circumstances.
This FGW situation continues on Sundays until 23rd October and I feel TOCs should take their services into account throughout their normal journey and, surely, could have arranged for an approppriate number of 158s to be available on the Cardiff siide of the occupation.
1266  Journey by Journey / Wales local journeys / Re: South Wales local services - Pembroke, Fishguard, Swanline, etc. on: September 18, 2011, 16:29:18
Agree.   It costs money to run a train and whether units (150 from 09 22) and 153 (from 13 02) sit at Swansea or not is therefore irrelevant.     If the gap could be filled by juggling Units around all well and good but as I have already explained there is nothing available at that time in the late afternoon.
1267  Journey by Journey / Wales local journeys / Re: South Wales local services - Pembroke, Fishguard, Swanline, etc. on: September 17, 2011, 17:57:47
Correct.   13 01 arrival works 17 10 Swansea to Cardiff.   This is to enable the 150 sitting at Swansea off 09 22 arrival to move to Cardiff for 15 14 Cardiff to Fishguard Harbour.
Rather than dwell only on individual Unit workings, doew anybody know anything about Fishguard passenger loadings
1268  Journey by Journey / Heart of Wessex / Re: Community plan for Bristol to Weymouth railway route on: September 13, 2011, 19:56:14
I agree there should be a more consistent timetable between Bristol T.M. and Weymouth.      At present we have a mixture of 2 hour gaps, 3 hour gaps or one on the following hour.
1269  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: September 12, 2011, 20:53:23
Reported 150102 now arrived at the Marsh and 150101 out in traffic today but have no details of it's work
1270  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: Cable / copper / metal theft - ongoing problems on the railways and elsewhere on: September 12, 2011, 17:16:49
Yes, the Police do seem to be taking the problem seriously but then they go to Court and much to the frustration of the police and the general public those in the Dock get away with a lenient sentence and what is more, not a deterrent to others.
1271  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Derailment in Cornwall - 8 September 2011 on: September 08, 2011, 21:05:27
On looking at FGW (First Great Western) Website, it would appear that SLW is in operation as a number of services are quoted as running as planned but with the obvious delay but others terminating/restarting Liskeard or Par.    No Cross Country west of Plymouth for rest of day.
1272  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Derailment in Cornwall - 8 September 2011 on: September 08, 2011, 20:33:40
Thamk you ChrisB. I have looked back through the thread and I can see the post which I think was being referred to.
Apologies Maxwell for being annoyed about your post.
1273  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Derailment in Cornwall - 8 September 2011 on: September 08, 2011, 18:05:57
I have not suggested an excuse whatsoever but merely commented on terminology and not in any way attempting to take away appreciation of the efforts of people concerned with handling the situation and doing their best possible to enable passengers to make their journeys with the least delay.   I have no wish to enter a slanging match but this was merely an observation without attempt to detract from the incident..
1274  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Derailment in Cornwall - 8 September 2011 on: September 08, 2011, 17:26:19
FGW (First Great Western) have come up with some new terminology on their Website.    The description being "an empty non-FGW train.    Would it not have been easier to just have said "Freight train"     So many reasons for delays seem to be covered over these days.
1275  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: September 08, 2011, 17:20:59
ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company))) still seem to have 150s to spare without these two depuising for 158s and even 175s.    The 121 is usually replaced by a 153 if not available although some times a Pacer.
Since posting have learnt 150282 loaned by ATW to Northern Rail so that proves the point, I think, of their availability.
