East/West designations are common designations on the GWML▸ . Exeter St David's is also referred to as East/West when it's more aligned North/South. It's for commonality across the whole line as the general direction of the GWML is from East (London) to West (Penzance); a bit like the Piccadilly line is designated East/Westbound when the ends of it run North/South.

When you consider all the separate incidents that cause the delay to one train, no wonder things get disjointed.
First there was the plastic sheeting on the OHLE out of PAD» which saw all lines blocked. Then the fallen tree at Castle Cary which closed the line. And finally the flooding at Hele & Bradninch which closed the line.
As the train would have to pass through all of these, and they did not happen at the same time, once you overcome one problem with contingencies, another manifests itself, which mucks up everything that you've already put in place. RRBs▸ and taxis are arranged for x and y, and suddenly there's a need to find for more from w to z.
And as usual no one was FORCED on to a train.

No, I think we're saying that politicians will speak rhetoric no matter what, especially if they have no intention of doing anything about it.
Labour had 3 terms to try and doing something about the railways and didn't. Prescott was very gung-ho in his term as Transport Minister, but it was all hot air in the form criticism because he was impotent in action.
