@GWRHelp have advised someone that Wednesday [30th] is a normal day and all usual peak restrictions apply.

Not very helpful!
498  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Booked ticket collection when TVM and ticket office not available on: December 18, 2015, 09:39:53
GWR (Great Western Railway)'s policy is to allow travel with the booking conformation and for you to collect your tickets at the next available opportunity.

Next available opportunity = a connecting station / your destination.
(what it doesn't mean is your can walk out the network without your tickets, nor does it mean that if you have return tickets to collect that you don't bother)

It is also worth noting that TODs can be collected using any bank card, not just the one they were booked with.

And incidentally the Avantix (Ticket Issuing System used on board trains) replacement for next year has the specification of printing TOD.

The government is launching the competition on the new South Western rail franchise which will incentivise bidders to increase capacity and significantly improve passenger satisfaction and performance standards, as well as providing more smart-ticketing and free Wi-Fi across all trains. Earlier this year, the government also confirmed a ^360 million order for a fleet of new trains on the Great Western franchise, which will provide more seating and better journeys into Devon and Cornwall. The trains will be delivered from 2018. DfT» (Department for Transport - about) will also work with the Peninsula Rail Task Force and other local stakeholders in the South West to publish a report next year with options for creating a dedicated new franchise for Devon and Cornwall.

500  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: Annoying / amusing use of completely irrelevant stock photos to illustrate press articles on: November 29, 2015, 17:13:02
A quick search on google (other search engines are available) reveals that this stock picture has been used in the past to illustrate just about any railway story by newspapers such as the Exeter Express & Echo, North Devon Journal, Nottingham Post, Plymouth Herald, Torquay Herald Express, West Briton and Western Morning News.

There's quality journalism for you.  Wink Cheesy Grin

It's cut and paste journalism.
501  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Disabled companion goes free? on: November 21, 2015, 18:20:30
It depends on the council, for example Devon CC issue companion passes but Plymouth and Torbay don't (or at least that was the situation over a year ago).

503  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Tarka Line Rover on: November 16, 2015, 21:50:46
In response to this twitter conversation from a passenger regarding the unavailability of the Tarka (Line from Barnstaple to Exeter) Line Rover, despite it's advertisement, shows the confusion between NRE(resolve), GWR (Great Western Railway), @GWRHelp, and its staff.

The Tarka Line Rover does not exist as a separate rover ticket, but is simply a CDR (Off Peak Day Return [ticket type] (formerly 'Cheap Day')) Barnstaple - Exeter St David's (or vice versa) that acts a rover over that route, which the passenger got but does not understand it is a return ticket with "rover powers"  Grin

This is a fallacy of having a so called rover ticket advertised as a separate entity but retailed as a 'normal' ticket.

I believe other so called rover GWR south west branch rovers are the same.

And today, following the weekend closure, there have been signalling problems.
More specifically Crediton box cannot clear CN2.
505  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Over-running engineering work Barnstaple line - 09 Nov 15 on: November 10, 2015, 08:59:47
Not only that but there is a very low speed restriction (5mph!) over the area, which is causing huge delays.

507  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Trapping people in their villages on: November 03, 2015, 15:34:02
They might also show the fella from the lunchtime bulletin who used his photocard driving licence number (or I'm guessing, part of it) with a 7 day season from Basingstoke to Twyford. GWR (Great Western Railway) are looking for ^170 from him or I think it's court this Friday IIRC (if I recall/remember/read correctly).

OT; he's not the only one who does this.

Live updates, news and results from the 2015 World Cup games will be broadcast across the Tube and DLR (Docklands Light Railway) network following a tie-up between TfL» (Transport for London - about) and broadcaster ITV.

Wherever passengers are on the network, they won't miss any of the action as the information will be available on all digital information boards at station entrances and on platforms.

The partnership is part of TfL's wider plans to generate ^3.4bn in non-fare revenue by 2020/21 to reinvest in the running and vital modernisation of the transport network.

2C41 EXD» (Exeter St Davids - next trains)-PAR which arrives at PLY» (Plymouth - next trains) at 07.40 is usually run as a 153, which is generally plenty of capacity.
510  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: FGW 1st Class - ongoing discussion of the benefits and their apparent reduction on: October 02, 2015, 09:47:57
Incidentally it's possible to buy a 1st advance single GWR (Great Western Railway) only from Barnstaple - Bristol TM(resolve) on 2 trains which don't have 1st class provision (it might not be now if the passengers actually complained like advised).

But as the fare was less than the standard fare, I'm not sure how the usual first-standard difference compensation would pan out!
