1  Journey by Journey / South Western services / Re: SWR w/e 6 April 2024 Exeter to Southampton service on: April 07, 2024, 19:02:28
And not a huge difference in price either. Wonder if they sell many of these via Southampton fares? After all the service via Andover is very good.
2  Journey by Journey / South Western services / Re: Major disruption, Basingstoke, 3rd April 2024 on: April 04, 2024, 17:07:12
Preserved railways aside, is this actually extinct on the national network?
150s, 155s, 156s and 158s?
3  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2024 - Service update and amendment log, Swindon <-> Westbury on: March 29, 2024, 16:55:54
Even the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) are reporting the line between Westbury and Swindon is closed:

Westbury to Swindon railway line closed due to flooding

4  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Briefing on forthcoming changes - from GWR on 14.3.2024 on: March 18, 2024, 15:19:53
Which station, Euston or Waterloo, would make for the best temporary London terminus for GWR (Great Western Railway) IC (Inter City) services when the route into Paddington is closed for HS2 (The next High Speed line(s)) related work?

Could they end up using both?

I know which one I’d prefer and it certainly isn’t Euston.
5  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Re: Westbury - engineering works from 24th December 2024 for 30 days on: March 15, 2024, 13:14:34
A month?!?! That’s ridiculous, why? They’ve only recently replaced track and switches at Westbury.

I’m not surprised it generated great interest and questions. To me, that seems a long time to have Westbury closed with all the implications for both those who travel from/connect at Westbury as well as those who are on trains that travel through Westbury from the south and Frome/Weymouth.

What benefit are passengers going to see from this major inconvenience? Not much I’d say without this massive opportunity being taken to reinstate a fourth platform.

I was reassured that both services to Bath and Bristol, and to Swindon, will operate from Trowbridge though their times may vary from the normal timetable
Too right they ‘may vary’. There’s no way you could operate the current 3 trains an hour to Bath and services to Swindon at the same frequency without trains continuing towards Westbury and reversing there.

I’m not impressed, this seems to have come from nowhere. I understand closing a line for a week or two maximum, but a month? This isn’t going to be very popular.

Not been a good week on the Berks and Hants.
7  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Heritage railway lines, Railtours, other rail based attractions / Re: Return of regular train service to Swanage and Corfe Castle on: March 06, 2024, 06:50:32
Sigh, so so disappointing both this and the WSR connection at Taunton are not used but totally understandable as running train services is so darned expensive. Heritage railways are having a job keeping going as it is. Couple this with councils struggling financially too it’s a case of oooooz gonna pay for it? No one  Sad
8  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Rail unions strike action 2022/2023/2024 on: January 29, 2024, 19:54:39
With SWR» (South Western Railway - about) down as running a pretty normal Sunday service, journey planners are showing Cardiff-Bristol-Bath to London via Salisbury for Waterloo and South West to London changing onto SWR services at Exeter for Waterloo.

I wonder what, if anything SWR will do, particularly at Exeter to manage this? Am I right in saying they cannot running anything longer than x2 159s between Exeter and Salisbury?
9  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Problems with IET trains from April 2021 on: January 28, 2024, 17:26:10
I expect you will be told to be grateful they managed to find 5!
Or that it even ran at all. Next Sunday it won’t be.
10  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Problems with IET trains from April 2021 on: January 28, 2024, 17:24:36
Journey check has now been updated to include the 1635:

Quote
16:35 London Paddington to Plymouth due 20:04
Facilities on the 16:35 London Paddington to Plymouth due 20:04.
Will be formed of 5 coaches instead of 9. Service full and standing from Reading.
I can assure the person writing this that the train was full and standing when it left Paddington.
11  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Problems with IET trains from April 2021 on: January 28, 2024, 16:39:21
Another poor customer experience for those aboard the 1635 Paddington to Plymouth 5 vice 10 and absolutely rammed according to my wife who’s on the train. First declassified. Not listed on JC as being short formed.
12  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Ticket purchasing on the GWR App suspended - January 2024 on: January 24, 2024, 17:49:14
I export my ticket to Google Wallet once it's showing on the GWR (Great Western Railway) app - that way I can access it easily without having to log back into the GWR one.
I do too.
13  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2024 - Service update and amendment log, Swindon <-> Westbury on: January 24, 2024, 12:21:53
So, it travelled to Westbury, then still in service to Bristol with Paddington passengers still onboard?
I would imagine London bound passengers were encouraged to change at Bath Spa for the half hourly Paddington services.
14  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Ticket purchasing on the GWR App suspended - January 2024 on: January 24, 2024, 11:00:22
I hope any revamp of the app will allow easy login using TouchID with saved credentials on a smartphone. At the moment (when it is working) the app seems to need authentication of who I am at least once per day. Since this requires manual entry of username and password it makes buying a daily ticket rather cumbersome process.
This!

The only App I have that I have to login every time I want to access my rail tickets. Very annoying.

Had an email on Saturday that said some customers had reported seeing journey details booked by another account but it appears no personal data had been accessed. Hope that’s still the case?
