Two words. The Mirror.

It's like the Daily Mail running a negative story about Labour - probably heavily biased!

The high speed station in Madrid has security scanners for bags akin to airports, even if travelling within Spain.

I've traveled on it. The automated announcements are awful! I understand a number of seats have been lost in fitting the disabled toilet too, otherwise very nice internally.
21  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: Daytime Traffic on the TransWilts on: May 15, 2015, 20:02:14
I see as of the new timetable one transwilts round trip has been extended to Frome

"1247 Swindon to Westbury and 1414 Westbury to Swindon will both be extended to/from Frome."

A small handful of London Underground stations have toilets that I know of. Newbury Park, Earls Court and Stratford being some examples.

Stratford is managed by Abellio Greater Anglia.

The last train eastbound from Plymouth is 2115. I've caught it once before. Bit of a joke how early it is really!
25  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Ticket cost 2 adults and 2kids Basingstoke to London + tube on: April 26, 2015, 16:22:06
The Groupsave Basingstoke - London Z1-6 Super Off Peak price is ^68.95 it appears.

Have you considered purchasing a Network Railcard (^30 for one year), this gives you 1/3 off adult tickets (incl. up to three adults who don't have the railcard when travelling with you) and 60% off child fares.

The Network Railcard fare works out at ^47.30 and then you have the benefit of a railcard valid for a year incase you make the trip again.

I now live in London, and the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) is effectively a free railway for the dishonest - I see it daily.

I'm always bemused when exiting my station (which is a terminus) by the amount of people who don't touch out!
Passengers with a valid Travelcard on Oyster (Smartcard system used by passengers on Transport for London services) do not need to touch out and obviously cannot touch out with a paper Travelcard. That assumes everyone who see not touching out holds a Travelcard...

Interesting, do I need to touch in when travelling in the morning? (I travel to a mainline terminus with barriers)

28  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: Well done FGW for ticket check on: March 02, 2015, 23:12:47

I believe TfL» (Transport for London - about) and the banks have developed a specific process of using contactless payment for travel which doesn't ever include asking for your PIN.  The ticket gates couldn't read a PIN anyway.

Paul

Indeed, I can only begin to imagine the chaos at the gatelines if it rejected contactless cards. I notice that they are marginally slower than an Oyster (Smartcard system used by passengers on Transport for London services) card, or maybe that's just my impatience  Cheesy
29  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: Well done FGW for ticket check on: March 02, 2015, 21:46:39
I was considering running down the balance left on my Oyster (Smartcard system used by passengers on Transport for London services) and relying on contactless alone.

However, if you did a "few" contactless journeys without a chip and PIN transaction I assume there is a chance the card would not work which would be inconvenient. Obviously the banks do not elaborate as to the number of sequential contacless transactions that can be made before that happens.

I used my contactless card for a few weeks on the tube and encountered no issues. By touching the card on the reader it doesn't actually authorise a payment in the traditional sense, instead noting where the card is touched during the day. TFL (Transport for London) then do the maths and decide how much to charge you at the end of the day (as I understand it!). The payments only ever appeared on my statement as one daily amount and sometimes didn't appear if I reached the weekly cap.
30  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: 'Packed in like cattle': More overcrowding on trains between Bristol and Cardiff on: February 28, 2015, 14:08:51
That's not full! The photographer had room to aim his/her camera.

Try the Central Line eastbound from Bond Street at around, say, 17.00.

The Central line looks like that for a couple of hours each day, with trains running every 1/2 minutes! You can't open the windows either!
