16  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: St Erth Station - incidents, facilities, improvements and awards (merged topic) on: June 12, 2017, 15:14:30
Network Rail want to replace the current footbridge with a new one with lifts and ramps. The Council keep refusing them planning permission. It would completely ruin the feel of the station. There is a barrow crossing the northern end of the platforms, although I'm not sure if this gets used.

I went to St Erth a couple of weeks ago (to change for the St Ives train) and a lot of work was going on in the carpark, trees have been cleared on the A30 side of the carpark too, most of the station building was fenced off apart from the shop next to the small siding platform. I imagine they must be carrying out work to the interior of the building.

153305 is in plain white livery. 153318 and 368 are now in GWR (Great Western Railway) Green.
19  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Looe Branch Line - cancellations, engineering work, closures and incidents (merged topic) on: February 04, 2017, 23:41:11
The Looe branch beside the estuary is very susceptible to flooding, even when its not stormy, but from spring tides, I have been on the train and the water has been almost up to the rails.

I think the rail replacement buses stop at St Keyne village and Duloe (up the hill from Causeland), due to the lanes being too narrow for buses. Sandplace station is of course next to the main B road.

The shrubs growing next to the chimneys have been removed too, although the roof slates still need replacing by the looks of it.

I live between Penryn and Helston, so the storm passed right over us. It was torrential rain for about 20 minutes with plenty of thunder and flashes of lightning, pretty spectacular.

I have used a Devon day ranger before on the Sunday services to Okehamption and has been fine.

St keyne I expect he will visit the music museum. I remember going with my Grandad as a child.

The museum has been closed for a few years now and the sign which was on that platform has been removed.
27  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Coombe Junction - passenger numbers and platform facilities - ongoing discussion on: April 05, 2016, 23:09:58
There is a bus service which runs hourly from Liskeard to Looe by Plymouth City Bus (taken over from Western Greyhound last year) Which goes to Liskeard station, St Keyne village, Duloe (up the hill from Causeland station),Sandplace station and Looe by the bridge.

You can blame that on a Wales & West franchise obligation - these phones went in at any station more than 400 metres from a public callbox.  Someone has written a ghost story involving the one at Causeland  http://www.darklingroom.co.uk/thl2/causeland_station.html

That would explain why Sandplace doesn't have one then as there is a red phonebox in the hamlet itself near the Polraen hotel.
29  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Coombe Junction - passenger numbers and platform facilities - ongoing discussion on: March 27, 2016, 14:45:39
There is even a BT payphone in the shelter, no idea if it actually works, can't imagine it gets any use, given the numbers that use the station.

Interestingly the shelters at St Keyne and Causeland have the same type of phone in them, although Sandplace doesn't.

Thanks for posting, marky7890.  Smiley

Do you happen to have any of those pictures for us to see here, by way of illustration for this topic?

Taken in June and September of 2014. Both of the 09:59 from Liskeard to Looe.

Last summer I also walked from Liskeard down the hill to Coombe to get some photos the station and the junction itself. Although I didn't get on the train. It was a Saturday so the 10:32 Looe to Liskeard train stops at Coombe.

This was the next service from Liskeard back to Looe at Coombe Junction.
